Frogs

Frogs

(FullCircle)
Animals are a big part of my life - I like things that don't talk too much... Frog beads are certainly a favorite of mine to make, lately I've been using a lot of Reichenbach glass to achieve rich earthy colors.
Lizards

Lizards

(FullCircle)
Cathy Lybarger was my first bead instructor three years ago, I also had the incredible opportunity to work along side her for about 4 months. Cathy too is a HUGE animal fan and in her studio she has two lizards pals, Lucy and Iggy.

Lucy and Iggy are the absolute inspiration for all of my lizard beads!! I love Lucy and Iggy!!!

Fish

Fish

(FullCircle)
I think I made my first fish bead about a week after I learned to make beads. I didn't even have a kiln yet - yikes!! Since I began making these fellows, three years ago, they have gotten a lot bigger - typically a fish measures about 40mm long.
Focals

Focal beads are a treat to make and to photograph. As much fun as I have making a set of beads I might enjoy making a really big focal bead even more!!! Something about sinking all of my energy into one piece and not breaking my flow by having to start another bead is very fulfilling.

And I guess if we’re being honest it's also a LOT easier to photograph a single bead as opposed to a set of beads...

Borosilicate Beads

Borosilicate Beads

I'm obsessed with Boro color and the amazing properties you can achieve with combinations of striking colors. Unfortunately I work mostly with marbles and a lot of the colors just can't be had within a heavily encased marble. So, I really enjoy crafting some nice colorfull Boro beads now and then. Most are sold on eBay and wholesale to bead stores. Some end up in finished jewelery that is sold through galleries.
Transparents

I seem to use mostly opaque glass in my work. I thought it would be nice to play a bit with straight transparent glass. I find that I really love the look and it is a nice change.

A few focal beads... the trees are part of a series, I hope to get all the pictures up soon!

The seahorses are my latest addiction... I never noticed what magical creatures they are untill I started making them out of glass!!!
A few seahorses already found new homes, before I took pictures of them... so I hope to have those soon too, it's not like me to give away glass pieces before taking their picture! :-)

Thanks for looking!

"Soft" Glass Lampwork

(AutEvLampwork)
I like playing with "soft" glass a lot. Economically it is the better choice for my urges to play. If I have my choice, I prefer creating beads with colors as bright as I can find. However, since I need to earn money to pay for my obsession, I try to balance out the colors and designs I use.

(BradPearson)
In order to create a larger surface on which to create the images and patterns, I developed these two part beads. One of my current favorite to design, but I do not get nearly enough time to make them.
Precision

Precision

(emmasgems)
When I first started making lampwork beads, my main aim was to place dots and lines as precisely on my beads as possible. I've always been obsessed with geometric, symetrical designs and if a dot was 0.1mm out of place, it was a reject. I'm still like this, but I'm venturing out into more organic style beads that allow more flexibility, as you can see in my other photo pages.

I'm fascintated by colour reactions with glass, especially when fine metals are introduced. The colour and style of a bead can change dramatically when silver leaf is burnished into the glass.

Every now and then I like to try something a little unusual, just to satiate my inquisitive nature! The beads on this page are unconventional to say the least, and were a lot of fun to make.
About the Artist

About the Artist

(emmasgems)
I make lampwork beads from my studio in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It has been my obsession since March 2005 and I am lucky enough to call it a part-time profession. 3 days a week I work as a software developer, so I'm feeding the right side AND the left side of my brain!

Learning the Lentil Press

Learning the Lentil Press

(JoeAndDonna)
Joe bought me a lentil press for my birthday, along with Bonnaroo weekend, which is this weekend, I'd rather be in TN doing the Roo! Anyway back to the lentil press, these beads were made this weekend, they are by no means perfect lentil shapes but i'm getting the hang of it.
