Hotshop cast glass

Hotshop cast glass

This technique is a new direction for us. The pieces demand substantial cold working to bring them to life. The coarse quality of the cast surface makes the ground and engraved surfaces all the more interesting.

This is a series using copper inclusions in cast glass. They're about the struggle for mindshare.

Pls Google 'memes' if you don't know about the term.

(AlexTrommler)
Currently I am pursuing a BFA at Alfred university working in glass, mainly hot fusing sheet glass and encasing the polished results into clear, cutting it up and polishing it further. I've also started working recently with Neon, I like making installations that work with the architecture of a building.

Dancing Calm

Dancing Calm

(Helen)
Helen loves three dimensional sculptures of frogs, rocks and shells and with her creative interpretation they become uniquely different. These rock sculptures have taken on wave forms and are derived from actual rocks. Through a process of rubber moulds and the lost wax process they have been cast in glass in colours that depict the land sea and sky where the rocks were found.
Helen uses the honeycomb mold technique to cast her glass sculptures, detail of mold on the next page or contact Helen.

The Honeycomb Mold

The Honeycomb Mold

(Helen)
The honeycomb mold enables intricate objects to be cast without sprues. It is stronger and lighter than the block mold. The plaster, silica and fiberglass construction is made in layers. Within those layers are walls and chambers that give the mold its strength.
Helen teaches the honeycomb technique internationally, her teaching schedule is listed on the events page of her web site.

'Urban Graphics'

'Urban Graphics'

(CatMacKenzie)
With some controversy, graffiti is being used as a way of adding art to imposing concrete walls in our urban environments. The artistic process in the production of a piece of spray-can graffiti has influenced the design of the 'Urban Graphics' range.
I researched the wy in which Street Artists use stencils as an aid in producing their work. I am drawn to the way in which a picture is built up using various layers and colours. The defined edges created, using this technique also adds to the textural effect I want to acheive.
Adornment of surface pattern and colour, are the two main themes of the 'Urban Graphics' range and I employ hot glass techniques and cold worked decoration to achieve this.
Using these concepts and methods of decoration, the 'Urban Graphics' pieces I create, play with the idea that themselves are adorned, and adorn the environment in which they are placed.
