Private Viewing of the Portland Vase

Private Viewing of the Portland Vase

(LesleyPyke)
The Chairman and MD of Nazeing Glass Works, Mr. Stephen Pollock-Hill and myself (Lesley Pyke), at a private viewing of the Portland Vase, at the British Museum, London, for the purpose of studying this 2040 year old Masterpiece. What do you think of the earliest example of blown glass? It is so expertly cameo engraved I could not see how they had managed achieve such small perfect detail. I was almost speechless!
Phot... published with the kind permission of the British Museum. April 2007.

These are the first in a series of sandcarved jars. The name of the series is call, "Primary Intentions".
If your familiar with the Federal Statutes regarding drug paraphenalia then you know what is meant by "Primary Intentions".

Two of these jars can be seen in the Fall 2007 issue of The Flow.
Thanx for looking.

Tribute to Dumbledore's Pensieve

Tribute to Dumbledore's Pensieve

(AlicynDrew)
12" fused glass bowl. I am a big Harry Potter fan and wanted to capture the magic of Dumbledore's Pensieve in this bowl. In the story the bowl is stone with runes carved into it, people store and retreive memories from the bowl in the form of silvery swirls. This bowl is fused glass with hand painted runes, there are silver swirls of the memories painted within. The bowl has a lot of texture tricking several people into believing it was clay, however it is all glass.
12 " glass bowl $150.00

Blowing Glass in Orrefors, Sweden

Blowing Glass in Orrefors, Sweden

(RandyBarba)
Spent the 07-08 school year working and practicing my glass blowing at the National School of Glass in Orrefors, Sweden. This was more of a practice in my process, focusing on consistency and speed, versus creating final products. I made a lot of progress and look forward to returning in September, 2008!
Dynamic Patterns in Glass

Dynamic Patterns in Glass

(DrewHelge)
Glass, is an amazing material. It is complex, versatile, and inspiring. As an artist who sculpts primarily in glass, I am constantly intrigued by the materials' textural memory and its ability to hold and distort light. This particular pattern making technique accentuates the optical qualities of transparent glass. My favorite way to display these works is in natural sunlight. Hundreds of prisms shine with brilliance, changing color and intensity as one's perspective changes. The most magnificient shadows are cast, and I have been experimenting with these techniques to makes lenses for projecting, as well as templates for drawings.

This piece is 8" tall by 6 1/2" wide. The overlay was Garnet, but didn't strike as well as I think it could have.
