These goblets are influenced by Egyptian hieroglyphics. They don't have a meaning except in that sense that they mean something to me.look out for more on the way.....thanks Nate

Rorschach Vase

(JoshuaOpdenaker)
This piece measures 25"x21"x5". It is titled rorschach after the rorschach ink-blot tests. Different people see different things in the stem so I felt the name was appropriate.

THE HISTORY OF THE AMAZING SCARAB BEETLES

Scarab Beetles can be found in South America and Egypt. The dung beetle fossils date back 40 million years. The Egyptians immortalized the scarab beetle as sacred . The Egyptians believed that the scarab beetle represented their sun god, Ra. Ra was the Egyptian god who rolled the sun across the sky and buried it each night. The scarab beetle became so sacred that they were put on unique stones to wear as jewelry. Archaeologists have also uncovered some evidence that Indians tribes_in South America also viewed the scarab beetle_as a religious symbol.

Ancient amulets were used for the deceased and the living. Amulets were believed to endow the wearer with the characteristics depicted in the art. Scarab beetle amulets portrayed the beetle's persistence in rolling a dung ball and the reemergence of the beetle from its hole in the ground. The scarab beetle became the symbol of spontaneous generation, new life, and resurrection.

An experiment in torch assembling lamped and furnace elements. The idea was to do something that can only be done at the furnace (Reticello) and something which can only be done at the lamp (the bust) in the same piece.
Thanks for lookin'!

New Constructions

(JNateCotterman)
These pieces are a combination of my intrestes in technical furnace glass and composition of objects. The pieces are moving out of the idea of a "snap-out-kit" and more toward constructions of objects composed in space.
Please feel free to check out new works added to my BFA-Works in Progress page. Thanks, enjoy.

Portland Vase Study by Lesley Pyke

To recreate the scene Cameo Engraved 2000 years ago has been my ambition for a long time. This is my first effort which I have enjoyed beyond words. I have hand engraved it(drill) on a large Tudor Crystal Challice.
I am now studying more about the many theories as to who these figures are...Fascinating! Does anyone know of any other hand engraved crystal copies?
If you are not familiar with the ancient original Portland Vase, it is worth reading about in an encyclopedia site.

Will You Marry Me?

This is a glass my brother had me make with about one hour's notice. Putting a several thousand dollar diamond 1 1/2" from a flame will definately test your confidence, and give you the shakes like your first day of blowing glass with 20 people watching. $$$$$BLING-BLING$...

The Jimi Piece

I have been working on this piece for a long time now. This is the first. Since the music is written for saxophone quartet and I have three other parts and other pages of material to work with.

I still have this piece and I am now planning on the rest of the work to get done on it's companions over the winter.

I got to spend some time in Penland this summer, and these cups spawned afterwards. Thanks to Scott Darlington, Emilio Santini, and Chris Mcelroy for the inspiration.
