Glass Cane - Mixed Media
(
EyeCandyArts
)
Here is a custom request I took on last winter when I was making my switch over to marbles. The cane was to be for another artist that had broken a bone in his leg, so he wanted a cool looking cane. I made the honeycomb marble and my friend Blade, who oversaw the project and took the pictures, sent it off to be mounted and finished by a professional cane making company in WA. Fun project!
Ed Philip's Design Studio
(
EPE
)
My fascination with art started with handmade jewelry and Art Glass from around the world. I initially took a master gemstone-cutting course because of my deep interest in minerals. I always liked the play of colors and how light shines through pieces of nature. This experience led me to teach myself custom metal worked jewelry. After learning the basics, I studied techniques in Fused Glass at master studios in Maryland and in Arizona. As soon as I got my first kiln, I tried working with Precious Metal Clay pieces and created my first glass plate. Each piece, while first designed, may change shape until placing the glass in the kiln. All works of Art Glass presented are made one at a time, and may result from many kiln firings, depending on final presentation. Every design, when possible, is signed, dated, and has my personal logo mark (LymeTree, LLC)

Recent Work from Late Summer and Fall 2006
(
RandyBarba
)
For the most part, my current work is an exploration through color. One of the things that intrigues me most about glass is color and the millions of ways you can use it. For the most part, the glass is being used as a canvas in which I almost paint with color bar alone.
I have been working with the optic mold, using it to mesh colors together in patterns. Depending on how I prepare my color and how I twist or adjust the color in between entrances to the mold determines my result. I can make the pattern complex or simple, fluent or varying, separated or intertwined, all while creating the most complex color combinations I can.
As for the base form, I have selected a shouldered vase. After creating the base shape, I then alter it depending on how it accents the color scheme that has arisen throughout the process. I have made open and closed, funky and symmetrical. Either way, they all explore the possibilities of abstract form there are within one shape.
There are obviously a few exceptions in this gallery, some of these pieces do not match the description above. There have to be experiments here and there, or all of this can be rather boring…
