A Window to the Tropics

A Window to the Tropics

(Tropicalglassworks)
Stained glass window panels have many functions. Aside from being decorative, they protect furniture and carpets from fading, while offering some privacy, and can totally change the personality of a room.

Sunset Sails 1 & 2

(KEHoeschele)
This pair of pieces consists of two triptychs, each measuring 8 inches by 22 inches. Although this particular size of window is generally relegated to basements, these short-wide windows were used in the remodeling of an old lakeside cabin in northwest Indiana. The windows are installed on either side of of a fireplace and catch the sunset becuase of their western orientation. The windows are constructed of Bullseye, Armstrong, Wasser, and Spectrum glass. The greatest challeng involved in this project was that I had never seen the home in which they were to be placed until after the windows were installed!
I studied photos of sunsets and old Lake Michigan lighthouses. The intricate components of the sky would have been much more painful were it not for my Taurus II ring saw.

This is the right window of the pair. In this I had to carry the brilliance of the setting sun, which begins in the thrid panel of window 1 and continues in the first panel of window two. In the second section of this window is a small distant sailboat. The third section shows one of the old lighthouses on Lake Michigan. The tempation to get into too great a detail on the lighthouse was almost overwhelming! And were this piece at least double in size, that might have been feasible. But glass art is often rather impressionistic...
