Recycled glass projects
(
RoSGlassWorld
)
Mixed media projects made with recycled glass/bottles. The origin of this series was a challenge on my yahoo glassblowing group to make anything out of recycled bottles for feb 06. I had many ideas, figures at first, my dad had the ship idea. Apparently they came out just like he imagined. Since then the fleet has expanded. I made Ship out of a Bottle II and Sail boat out of a Bottle april 06. I found it much easier the second time around, working faster while shaping the main ships was better than the first attempt, which I struggled through being unfamiliar of how the glass would work in the flame. Bottles are stiff or runny, very little room for in-between.I changed the order of shaping as well. Relief hole first, neck second, deck, then bottom. Worked better than the order I used for the original Ship. the hardest part was pulling stringers from the bottle without getting bubbles for the masts. I will likely explore more recycled projects.

Anthurium andraeanum "Lunette", anthurium crystallinum and spring grass 28" x 18"
We learned an emense amount from the previous antheriums so we employed that knowledge to create the better flower. Up to 6 plus hours of work for each pink antherium, but well worth the effort, be sure and click on one of the close-ups to really see the vein work. Lampworked borosilicate glass, sandblasted, painted.

Geodes
(
LindemannGlass
)
All of these Geodes are made whole, cooled down and then cut, polished, heated and re-worked. I always loved geodes as a kid and now I can make my own. I'm never quite sure what they are going to look like before I cut them open so it brings back some of my childhood excitement. A few of these have been posted before but I figured I have enough new ones to make a new catagory.

Cocoa/White/Peacock Hollow Display and Marble Set
(
EyeCandyArts
)
The display stand is made from hollow hand-pulled tubing made of Experimental Cocoa and Star White from NS. The top rest includes a hidden rubber O-ring used as a buffer between the glass marble and the glass stand, as suggested by Mike Close of Baron Molds. The O-ring prevents unnecessary damage to either piece of artwork, and Mike created a tool for me that would leave a perfect indent for the O-ring to sit. Thanks Mike!
