Geissler tubes

(BenjaminBaker)
These tubes are made using traditional neon tube bending techniques and filled with neon, argon, or xenon (the snaky ones) No two tubes are exactly alike.

Jellyfish ( neon & glass )

(EricEhlenberger)
The most dramatic sculptures from Ehlenberger's "Venusian World," the luminous "Jellyfish" suspend in mid-air, glowing with a life of their own. Individually hand-blown by the artist with careful attention to detail, the neon tentacles radiate with rich subtle hues.

Each "Jellyfish" is unique and is powered by a 12VDC adaptor with plugs into a standard 110V electric outlet and is suspended from the celing by a thin acrylic-coated stainless steel cable. While strong enough to display individually, the "Jellyfish" have an especially powerful impact when displayed in a group.

Neon workshop with Harold Eberhart

(JohnVinEVinson)
Some pictures from a workshop I did with Harold Eberhart at his studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I would encourage anyone who is interested in working with pyrex glass to take a class from Harold. He is, without a doubt, one of the best teachers out there!

Venusian Landscapes

(EricEhlenberger)
This series of sculptures in Ehlenberger's "Venusian World" explores fantasy Landscapes with luminous vegetation, glowing lakes and craggy mountains. His distinctive approach to the Landscape incorporates such media as silicone, translucent paint on brushed aluminum and back-lit lenses to evoke an other-worldly ambience.

Some landscapes are executed in the traditional western horizontal format. However, as a consequence of Ehlenberger's love of ancient Chinese and Japanese landscape painting presented in a vertical format, he began exploring landscapes in an Asian style.

Subsequ... Ehlenberger also developed his own, unique approach to the Landscape, the "discScape". A small manifestation of the Landscape, only 16" in diameter, its shape alludes to the spherical shape of the planet.

Plasma Plasma Plasma Neon

Look but please don' t touch. Most of these pieces will zap you.

Original works of art using light as a medium. Blown glass using spruce pine welded to lead glass for neon. These interesting shapes have found there way in some of my more finished works.

Plasma Tubes

(TonyGreerSpecialE...)
Gases or vapors give off light when ionized by electricity into a plasma state. This fourth state of matter is created when electrons get knocked out of their stable orbits by other free electrons racing towards the positively charged electrode. A single photon of a particular wavelength of light is emitted when an electron falls back into its stable orbit. The result of billions of these photons every second is a glow of light that seems to come from empty space.

The RAM

(BertRobertoSaenzD...)
In late 2002, we were commissioned to execute another sculpture for the Ortigas and Company's, Greenhills Shopping Center. Attorney Rafael Ortigas the President of the company claimed the sculpture we has made for the Year of the Horse, received a lot of praise, not only from the Chinese community in Manila but from various sectors (many of whom had informed him they had never encountered a 3 Dimensional Neon sculpture like it, even during overseas sojourns), prompting him to request a new sculpture be made for the Year of the Ram (2003).
We decided an addition of a new medium would be in order, as the Horse sculpture we had made was see-through. We then added to the basic steel and neon glass sculpture an additional element, FIBERGLASS!
We used basically the same structural style of 2" squares of welded mesh, 2" flat mild steel bars and 8mm rods. We also used the layering technique to stiffen the figure for more structural strength. We decided to sheath the entire figure in fiberglass mat.

Constructivist Series

(EricEhlenberger)
Ehlenberger's sculpture has been strongly influenced by his appreciation for the sculpture of the Constructivist art movement of the early 1900's. Popularized by sculptors such as Naum Gabo and Vladmir Tatlin, Constructivist sculpture is characterized by its focus on geometric shapes with simple curves and linearity. It is generally abstract with an industrial quality and often incorporates industrial materials such as metal, wood, and glass. Ehlenberger's personal approach to Constructivist sculpture is to add the element of light as a focal point of the sculpture, emphasizing the relationship between the shapes and forms of the sculpture.

holy grail

(BerndWeinmayer)
In the third workshop with Ed Kirshner we developed our first footvase "holy grail" 2005. Since that time I improved the light effects and tested different gas mixtures for a bigger color spectrum. The most fascinating thing in this work are the moving light effects (plasma). The patterns of the "treepot" for example is turning left in the top and turning right in the foot. The vases are between 30 to 90cm high

The hollow borosilicat glass jellies are filled with neon/argon plasma and between 40cm and 80cm big. The moving, flashing pattern effect are looking very similar to the real deep sea jelly

After Benīs request, that I should show the biest I hold in my hand illuminated I filled up the armadillo with pure neon two weeks ago.
By the way - thanks for all your comments in the past. It boosts my energy to make projects like this animal which can take some weeks...

bloodpressure

(BerndWeinmayer)
What a day - the 8.8.2007! In the morning a worked on this skull. Suddenly Gitti was coming and said its time for going to hospital. A few hours later our son Maximilian was born. 6 more hours in the same building our aunt died surprisingly - this was really an emotional day I will never forget.
The skull was the perfect piece for this day - blood as a symbol for life and the skull as a symbol for "game over"...
