Hanging in the Balance
City Boots Fremont Street Artist; Some Neighbors Say Good Riddance
On the other hand, maybe not all publicity is good publicity.
Fawzi Benhariz, also known as Benny, also known as "the rock balancer," has been building intricately balanced rock sculptures in Fremont for more than two years. The City of Seattle has shut down his sidewalk sculptures in part, Benny thinks, because of a profile of him in the April issue of Seattle Metropolitan magazine. Some locals, who describe Benny as a great artist and neighborhood icon, are pissed; others, who say he's a moody public nuisance, are relieved.
Roughly two weeks after the profile was published, and two years after Benny began regularly building his rock sculptures, the city's Department of Transportation said he had tto have a Street Use permit..."

Clocks that are handcrafted are to be thought of as art...as well as a precise instrument for telling time, and the sound of each second measures the passing of your life.Our clocks are built of wood with brass mechanical works. (Grandfather and Mantle Clocks)

not glass, but it's something else i like to do. i did this one last november, and i'd say it took around 30 hours or so to put togehter. the ring and pedestal are hollow, and the collumn is hollow as well. i'll put up a few more pics of it this week.
Non- Glass artwork

I always find it interesting to see what kind of work artists do outside their prefered medium. I feel it gives you a little bit of insight about them. So... Here are some examples of other artwork I've done. To see more, visit my website at www.geocities.com... sorry the pictures aren't larger. I'm trying to find the original sized images but they're hiding in my hard drive somewhere. :o)

"Perception is the Medium" by Mark Lammi
(

"Perception is the medium." This is the title of a new book I am working on that is set to be released sometime in 07 featuring my artwork, philosophies,etc pertaining to glass and art in general. I have an image in my profile pics that is the cover in progress for my book. it is also a piece of art, not just a blank page... remeber perception is the medium and nothing is exterior to the mind! I became intrigued with this concept while studying the Op Art movement and painter Bridget Riley who introduced me to the idea that PERCEPTION IS THE MEDIUM.

***Amor Eterno*** (Eternal Love)
(
Sonia
)
Fractal image; dimensions: 123.47 x 123.47 cms. The forms resemble a few hands that support an alliance, the force of the light affects on the hands and the alliance as highlighting a moment of great importance. All this surrounded by an oval circle without beginning(principle) or final might represent very well the eternal love.
Imprimible and canvas and other materials.
