How-To: Get Heat Rash (or rather, how NOT to get it)

How-To: Get Heat Rash (or rather, how NOT to get it)

(EyeCandyArts)
Directions for Heat Rash: Work long hours without a shirt in high humidity for days on end, and you might get this. It went away after a few days, but it comes back with long work days occasionally. As it fades away, it kind of looks like leopard print!

Richard Werner

(RichardWerner)
I have spent many years designing and constructing art glass for commerical and residential clients. When I lived in the Midwest, I taught stained glass to adults at the local community College.

I currently reside in Nantucket, MA.

My wife, Karen, took a few pictures of me in our guest bedroom converted into my temporary workshop--notice the Charles Shulz Original unpublished cells in the background - a favorite of mine. That and the red wine!!

It's hard not to blow glass when your constantly surrounded by such inspiring colors. I never really struggle with color combinations, I just look around me and mimic what I see here in the High Desert. As I prepare for Tuscon Best Bead Show 2006 I took a drive up through the Sandia Mountains. Here's a sampling of the natural palette I select my colors from.

The Laser Shoppe & Art Glass Studio

(GaryL.Williams)
The Laser Shoppe & Art Glass Studio is owned and operated by Gary Williams. Gary established his laser engraving and sand carving studio in 1999. His sand carving techniques include surface etching, shading, and multi-stage carving. Airbrushing is also used to add color and realism to his carved glass. Please feel free to contact Gary at his shop for additional information.
Mardi Gras 2006

Mardi Gras 2006

(AndrewJ.Pollack)
New Orleans is back rocking and rolling. Check out these few photos from Carnival 2006. We got to see a few parades with beautiful floats and booming marching bands. The numbers did not appear to be down, to us. I think that people were amazed at the turnout. It did more to lift the spirits, of a race of people who can't be broken, than anything else since the hurricane. New Orleans is coming back!...very slowly. But don't get too excited, there is still much to be done or certain areas may never return.

This photo is of my mardi gras bead necklace from Fat Tuesday. It is made up of many of my demos from beadmaking classes over the last few years. It weighed about a pound, and was 18" long, doubled over. There should be photos, if you click here, of me wearing it with my cowboy hat and purple tux/zoot suit. "All on a Mardi Gras day...."

These are some of the first in a line of marbles that play with inner optics, bubbles that reflect and/or distort the inside outside. (It has been hard to photograph this miniature detail)

All of the glass on display here has been created through Great Heat, cunning, and secret glass techniques. My studio is in Charlottesville, Virginia, in loose collusion with the Blue Ridge Glass Guild.

Thanks,

Nate
