1 - Fountain collaberation 2005
(
LucidVisions
)
Coming togeter to share creativity, stories and a love of glass are what collaberations are all about. It was great to have our studio host an event with so many freash minds and ideas in glass. We set out to make a wall mounted glass fountain that would express organics and functionality, (thanks to a bit of electrical tape.) Hollow cut, sandblasted leaves directed the water through rooted structures, flowers and frit slump marbles into a basin. The basin was filled full color vases and ornamental vessels patterned with red exotic powder. The fountain lasted less than 48 hours due to a light falling off the ceiling, destroying 70% of the fountain. This was a disappointment but the collaberation was about the process and not the final product. Special thanks to Ron @ Art Glass House for his glass donation. Thank you to all that attended Lance, Micah, Josh, Amanda, Nate, Kristian, Rusty, Jim, Jen, Ross, Matt, Derek, Brian, Trevor, Kristian, Kevin, and Mikey

This is our studio, it's a 12 x 16. It was just a plain storage building until Joe worked his magic and transformed it into a studio that we can be proud of. Hoods were constructed by Pattishall's Industrial Contracting in Sanford, NC. Under each hood is an 10 inch pipe connected to a 1620 CFM attic fan. The bathroom fans ( 70 cfm ) are just for added ventilation.

Here's a few photos of me at my home studio. I still have some adjusting to do with my workspace. I am also working on getting better glasses with split lenses because I can't see a thing with these sometimes!
Artist Statement 2005
(
RJasonHoward
)
My current work is an exploration of change, time, and process. I’ve always thought of glass as a matrix of the space-time-heat continuum. Its form is a record of a series of events that happened to it along its formation, like strata within the earth’s crust. The invisible strata within the glass all move as one, but at different rates depending on location and temperature. Sometimes they flow quickly, sometimes slowly, but always together like an orchestra following the conductor with heat as the tempo. I draw inspiration from the natural world, and try to capture the universal flow that binds everything. Using traditional Italian techniques, modern developments in flameworked borosilicate glass, and a mix of my own invented techniques, I’m trying to draw from and acknowledge the past, represent the present, and bridge the future in the flow of change.
The Artist
(

So I'm told I need to include an "About the Artist" page. I'm going to keep this very short, as I really don't think anyone really wants to know my life's history. Now if I told you everything…. Well you would know too much!
I live in Mt. Vernon, Virginia with my husband. Our respective children are grown and mostly trying to be on their own. Notice I said mostly!
I have always loved art in many forms since I was a young child. I grew up in Panama, Canal Zone and have some artist influences from the designs of the Cuna Indians.
I love color and whimsy! So do allot of other artists! So what makes my stuff cool? I can't really say, but everything I paint, create, draw… I want to keep. All of my pieces are a part of my heart and I hope everyone enjoys them as much as I do!
So that's me in a nutshell. I thank my husband for his never ending encouragement and support! To my children, my parents, family and friends, thank you for your gifts of love! My life is richer daily for each one of you!

In Loving Memory of Marcin Mitrega
1987-2005 I once stood to speak at the funeral of a friend I read the dates on his tombstone from the beginning to the end I first spoke his date of birth i spoke the following date with tears but what matters most of all is the dash between those years for that little line represents all the time that he spent alive on earth and now onlt thise who loved him know what that little line is worth for it matters not how much we own the cars the house the cash what matters is how we live and love and how we spend out dash So think about this long and hard are there things you would like to change for you never know how much time is left that can still be rearranged if we could just slow down enough to consider whats true and real and always try and understand the way other people feel and be less quick to anger and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we've never loved before if we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile "page 2"
New vending setup for Liquid Glass Studio
(
StephanPope
)
A picture of my new vending setup for the Saturday Market in Portland Or.
Every Saturday and Sunday from March until December the Old Town/Chinatown neighborhood transforms into a thriving arts and crafts open-air marketplace. It attracts an estimated 750,000 visitors to this area each year. The market moved to its current site under the Burnside Bridge in 1976, and started staying open on Sundays the following year. Things have changed a lot from the early days. PSM has over 400 members and generates an estimated $8 million in gross sales annually. Items are still sold by the people who make them, giving the customers the chance to talk directly with the artisan about their craft and why artists choose to make their living at the market.
