Portfolio Pendants
(

A selection of my favourite fused glass pendants. Generally my work is abstract and modern. I love using multiple layers of clear glass on top of an opaque base to create depth, and I am obsessed with stringers.

Cast Glass "Light Matters"
(
BillieMartin
)
This series of small figures (6" to 14" high) was done in kiln cast glass. I experimented with the traditional Lost Wax Method used for bronze casting until I figured out how to adapt it and cast glass.
Three images in this group are not of glass. "Three Gracies" is wax - yet to be cast and shows the link between my grandmother, my granddaughter and me (all named Grace.) "Eye of the Beholder" is a group of bronze figures that were the starting point for this series and reference the way different body types have gone in and out of "fashion" throughout history. "Bound and Determined" was carved from soapstone during a long, frustrating wait for kiln repairs to be done.
I have tried a large variety of sculptural methods and mediums - but glass speaks to me more clearly than anything else.

Kiln-formed Accent Dishes
(
RonaldBell
)
The kiln-formed accent dishes and bowls are created from various colors of Bullseye glass. On the black irid images, the pattern is created with a vinyl mask and then sandblasted. One trip to the kiln for polishing and a final trip to form the dish. Because these are easy to customize, they are very popular as gift items. The colored dishes are also Bullseye glass.

Elephant platter from the Vanishing Links series
(
AveryAndersonGlas...
)
"Vanishing Links" is my third major series and is devoted to the endangered species of the world, many of whom are on the verge of extinction, with the hope of bringing attention to their struggle for survival.
The center area features an original pen and ink drawing of a head study of an African Elephant. The four masks are interpretations of African designs from the west Africa region. Masks represent the faces of higher beings: of spirits, gods, and ancestors. An African textile pattern is located between the masks. The border herd of elephants and spears at the top and bottom represent the elephants struggle for survival due to illegal poaching.

African Spirit Shield - Yellow Giraffe
(
AveryAndersonGlas...
)
In many cultures, shields and spears were used not only as defensive weapons, but also as decorative or ritual objects filled with symbolic meaning. While some functioned as weapons, many, however, were solely for ceremonial use, or displayed for prestige or status. As in almost all indigenous cultures, animals play an important role in spiritual rituals. This work is a continuation of my exploration into the spiritual relationship between man and animals. Fused, enameled, sandblasted glass with cast glass giraffe head in center.

"A World Others Might Have Missed" Sleeping Bear Dune, Empire
(
CherF
)
The "Through My Looking Glass" series was developed by Cher's mosaicist approach to kiln formed glass. She builds layers of crushed glass, fires the resulting layouts, and then captures all of the layers digitally. The resulting giclee vision seems to show much more than the underlying glass layout. It appears to have a lot of mystical activity and various visions embedded in the scene. Perhaps what you're seeing is the past history and lives led along the shore of the Sleeping Bear, or maybe it's what the Captain of the Mystery Ship saw as he approached the shore. Or maybe it's a reflection of your own dreams.

Havdalah
(
WildFireDesigns
)
I have several friends that are Jewish and have been to many ceremonies. My favorite ceremony is Havdalah, performed on Saturday evening. The day before is also my chance to taste that wonderful Challah bread!- yum. The ceremony uses a wine glass, a candle, and a spice box. And I thought, why not make a set of fused glass and exotic wood? Several of my friends have commissioned me to make them a set. These, however, are my best yet....

New work gives me much more surprises. The desire to experiment and to take risks drives me to seek my own interpretation of glass through a personalized process. I like to chance because I always want to find some new way to play.
