My studio is located at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It is the sheer beauty and colors of the Appalachians that inspires work. It is extremely difficult to photograph the prismatic colors within Dichroic Glass but I tried to capture my pieces on film as best as I could.

My pictures are inspired by a long time fascination with nature and natural patterns. I like to use a lot of dichroic and irridized glass to give the pictures a different appearance in transmitted or reflected light. In addition, I use low fusing temperatures to achieve a depth and feel of relief. To see more of my work please go to www.vitreous-humo...

Making ornaments is a great way to take concepts I've developed in the last year and polish them in a small scale. I sell these at museum shops and galleries. They are also fun to use as suncatchers.

My girlfriend has enjoyed making some glass pendants. She is taking these pictures and I am jealous of her photo quality. I enjoy her experiments and seeing the jewelry on her. My only comment is that glass and glue do not form a natural symbiotic relationship. I have yet to truly trust a glue that is also attractive. Much time and money has been researched on this topic probably making it a near Holy Grail type of search. Please email a miricle glue if you know of one. Currently the best is UHU Creative craft glue for metal glass and jewelry.

Sometimes I use this site as to host images for clients and collectors...
If the easel will not work, I have come up with another solution...
Many Thanks to Glass Artist and Technician Jason Grodsky from Urban Glass. This piece is to premier this Wednesday in at a Gala in NYC.

Jason, I used the following:
A screw gun/cordless drill with a Phillips head driver, A pencil/sharpie pen, two pairs of pliers (to open chain links), heavy duty felt (see photos), a scissors or razor blade to cut the felt, 16" of "piano hinge" (you may need to use a "C" Clamp and hand held metal hack saw if forced to cut it), 3/4" long flat head wood screws that fit the piano hinge, and a piece of 3/4 "Luan" or nice veneered (Birch?) plywood 18" wide x 54" long, and metal chain cut to length.

We aquired a truckload of 3/4" plate glass. It is highly optical and tradionally used for telescope lenses. We're having fun cutting, sndblasting, drilling and melting it.

This new group of jewelry is complex in design while small in scale. Since I began using quilt patterns, kente cloth and modern art as inspiration, it made sense to transfer what I was doing on a large scale to personal adornment.
