Orpheus and Eurydice

(NudibranchArtGlass)
After Eurydice was bitten by a serpent and died, Orpheus was so stricken that he dared to enter the underworld to see if he could win her back from death. he sang such sad songs that Hades and Persephone, the gods of the underworld, were so moved that they allowed Orpheus to lead Eurydice back to the light of day under the condition that he wouldn't look at her walking behind him until they were back in the world of the living. Suspecting deception and doubting the god's promise, in his anxiety he turned to see if she was really there ... in that same instant she disappears back into the underworld.

Crazy Birds and Friends

(RoSGlassWorld)
Exploring the shape and essence of a bird, I have decided to focus on a birds interaction with its environment and take advantage of their wonderful variety of color in an abstract way. I am continually experimenting with pairing glass, metal and other mediums. I enjoy soldering and welding and am using this series to express different combinations.

The Hercules beetle is said to be the strongest creature on earth for its size, able to carry 80 times its own body weight."

Sculpture with a story

(RoSGlassWorld)
I am continuing to create pieces with a story or an interaction between elements. I was always fascinated with miniature worlds and dioramas. I am beginning to look outside of colored glass to accent my work. I have begun experimenting with sandblasting and oil painting as well as continuing to use mixed media in my art.
Asian Longhorn Beetle * Featured Page *

Asian Longhorn Beetle

(WesleyFleming)
"The Asian long-horned beetle, translated as Sky Ox in Chinese, is native to China where it causes widespread mortality of poplar, willow, elm, and maple throughout vast areas of eastern Asia. An invasive species in the United States, the larva of this beetle has a voracious appetite for wood. Females of this species chew into the bark and lay eggs. When the eggs hatch, the immature beetles, which look like big white worms, chew their way farther into the tree. When they mature, the full-grown beetles chew their way out of the tree. The beetle life cycle leaves trees riddled with holes, oozing sap. The USDA believes this beetle can probably survive and reproduce in most sections of the country where suitable host trees exist. The beetle has also invaded Britain, Austria and Germany." - adapted from Wikipedia.org
