Fairy vessel

(MicahEvans)
This is a three section piece, stopper, vessel, stand. It really took some fine tuning to get this thing standing level...a little more history on this piece..I made this in 2001, when I had been blowing glass for just about two years, these two sectional vessel pieces, the fairy and the coiling spear are the two pieces that made me believe in myself as an artist. There is nothing conceptually significant about the fairy, but I did a lot of designing and tinkering and it didn't end up in a pile on the floor! SUCCESS!!!

"Herkimer Claw"

(TroyBennett)
In the Summer of 2005 Andrew Brown and I got together for the 2nd time at his studio in Kansas City. We really wanted to step outside the box, so we decided to forget the technique and focus on shapes. Andrew also got his hands on some crazy color boro blobs. These blobs weighed between 1-5 pounds each. I was afraid to use them at first, because they looked like they would blow up in the flame, but it went great. More Pics Coming Soon

~the medical series~

(JoshuaOpdenaker)
This body of work by Joshua Opdenaker is described as sophisticated edgy. Some of the pieces like the needle and oxygen mask provoke an aggressive sensation. Although some works are more intimidating than others, all emit a sterile and medical feel. While these items’ intended use is to heal people, they present a high contrast by equally making people feel uncomfortable.

marble sets

(DevinSomerville)
It has taken me a while to get back on track after a big move and I have been absent from the boards, but I'm finally situated so I thought I'd post some pics of some new work.
I have taken my marble making in a new direction. I wanted to do something totally different than what is happening in the boro world of marbles, so this is what happened. I have been making tons of little marbles (peewee to about 1") with boro style designs. basically taking all of the techniques that would be used in one big marble and splitting them up into a bunch of small ones. I like these because they resemble antique marbles, but look totally different. From vortexes to simple stripes, dot work, and mushroom marbles, they cover the vastness of the marble world but in very small packages.
Now although they are cute, they may not be very impressive by themselves so I am taking them and grouping them into sets which sit in some kind of vessel, essentially forming a living sculpture. So far thy have been dishes, b

I originally made 4 damselflies and a nice fish with dichro fins, but only these two survived the kiln. Ah well. next time I'll remember not to put them too close to the elements.
