abstract hanging sculpture

I made this piece in mid-September of 2003. 11.5 inches wide by 14.5 inches tall. Making this piece was a real challenge size wise. It just barely fit in my kiln. In fact, it would only fit if positioned at one exact angle with one certain side facing up. Entire piece was made with clear rod and then fumed silver. I'm planning on constructing a stand for it soon.

'Akohekohe (Palmeria dolei) on 'Ohi'a (Metrosideros polymorpha)

(JupiterNielsen)
The endangered 'Akohekohe or Crested Honeycreeper was once found on Molokai as well but today is only found in the remote rainforests of East Maui. Its white headcrest is the perfect pollinator for the 'Ohi'a lehua, hawaii's dominant native rainforest tree.
Someday I would love to see one, i believe they are down to around 1200 birds left and only live in extremely thick forest where access is restricted. There is some info at this link if yr. interested.

This is the drum I made for the Eugene Glass School 2004 Flame-off. It took first place in the Sculpture competition, and won me a GTT Delta. The Sacred White Buffalo head sculpture I made the following week. I am very inspired by Native American art and culture, and I am very appreciative to the Great Spirit for the creativity to create these wonderful pieces.

This sculpture is one of 20 which will be in a gallery show in Vegas. The flesh tones were hand mixed out of Northstar color.
This one was inspired by three young minded haters. Glassblower, Ben, and Brian this goes out to you! What do you think of my skills now ???

Jellyfish ( neon & glass ) * Featured Page *

Jellyfish ( neon & glass )

(EricEhlenberger)
The most dramatic sculptures from Ehlenberger's "Venusian World," the luminous "Jellyfish" suspend in mid-air, glowing with a life of their own. Individually hand-blown by the artist with careful attention to detail, the neon tentacles radiate with rich subtle hues.

Each "Jellyfish" is unique and is powered by a 12VDC adaptor with plugs into a standard 110V electric outlet and is suspended from the celing by a thin acrylic-coated stainless steel cable. While strong enough to display individually, the "Jellyfish" have an especially powerful impact when displayed in a group.

Gundi * Featured Page *

Gundi

(Gundi)
Each of Gundi's pieces is painstakingly created. Plate glass is cut into small pieces, then tumbled to remove sharp edges, and fused with an ultra-strong bonding adhesive into a multifaceted sculpture. Such pieces glint beautifully in the sunlight during the day, and form spectacular table centre-pieces at night, especially when illuminated from below or with spot lighting from above.

Gundi's sculptural works reveal shapes that contrast strongly with regularly layered levels of glass. This year she has continued to infuse many of her pieces with bold, colorful edging, which can be fully customized according to taste. Clients have the option of ordering sculptures that use crisp and clear premium Starphire glass as the base material - Starphire gives a wonderfully clean look and an added dimension of contrast with the edging. New this year is a blue glass which complements the regular green, smoky charcoal and clear Starphire.

This flower is about 15" tall, I have been keeping these smaller lately to avoid panic when they don't fit in the kiln. The flower itself is made from cobalt tubing backed with white powder and silver strike 5 on it's backside. The foot is mostly amazon bronze.

Experimental installation

(AaronSlater)
This is an experimental glass installation that I did for a recent art show called Lollypops and Handgrenades. Kevin Engleman assisted me on this live demo.

I had been thinking for a long time about an installation that could only be made in place and was too delicate to ever move and the theme of this show seemed to fit with that idea so I started brainstorming what form this project might take on. I really wanted to do this for the first time the night of the show because I was interested in displaying to my best ability all the aspects of the glass including its fickle nature. So, with my goal being a good demonstration of the nature of glass and the physics that rule my world of working with glass, I let those factors determine the form of the piece more than anything else, including aesthetics. The project inspired me and I think there will be more to come from these ideas. Kevin told me it inspired him also.

I've included some pictures of other work that was in the show.
