Borosilicate Implosions

Borosilicate Implosions

(LisaRippee)
I have a new love. Boro! Experimenting with implosion designs can create some fun results.

Some of these have glued-on bails (oh, no!) because I wanted to play instead of concentrating on the hard part.

Thanks for looking.

This is my first attempt at making a boro sculpture using glass tubing. She isn't really what I had envisioned for the completed piece, but I had some cracking issues. After the umpteenth repair, I decided to stop while I was ahead. I'm still pretty pleased with her outcome.

Here are some of my hollow heart beads. These are my first attempt at doing hollow sculptors...a bit more practice and I'll be ready for more advanced shapes. Thanks for looking its been a while since I've posted on GlassArtists.

I made these beads with cane that we pulled using lots of Glass Alchemy's triple passion and lots of clear too. I encased all of them with clear and the focal bead has a couple of swirls in it.

I have been making hollow forms: lamps, perfumes, ornaments, etc for many years. About two years ago I added beads, both off mandrel and mandrel-made to my repertorie. Here are some of the better ones.

Ocean Inspired Beads from Jan

Ocean Inspired Beads from Jan "06"

(Christina)
Here are a few more ocean inspired beads that I have created. I first started making these beads because I moved to Nevada and missed the ocean, now I am hooked. It took a long time for me to figure out how to make these but the outcome is well worth the effort to me. :o)
Some More Beads

Some More Beads

Here is some beads I worked on over the weekend. I'm getting pretty good at getting them round, now just have to keep them in the same size range. These are all done with boro.

I'm obsessed with Boro color and the amazing properties you can achieve with combinations of striking colors. Unfortunately I work mostly with marbles and a lot of the colors just can't be had within a heavily encased marble. So, I really enjoy crafting some nice colorfull Boro beads now and then. Most are sold on eBay and wholesale to bead stores. Some end up in finished jewelery that is sold through galleries.

Most of these peices are in my Father's collection. I was able to photograph them on a rescent trip to Palm Springs C.A. Some are older than others, but most were made in 2003

Here are some of my favorite pendants. This first one was made using a marble Christina Cody gave me at the Vegas marble show in 2006. Note how it moves within the outer ring. I will keep posting here as I make more!
coldworked gypsea jewelry

flameworked/coldw... borosilicate jewelry.
these were formed on a mandrel with various layers of colors, clear, powders and frits, annealed in kiln, cut on a wet saw, polished on a lapidary wheel, reheated in a kiln, edges then smoothed in torch flame, reannealed, piece was then wired with sterling silver.

thanks to Andrew Brown / KBGlassworks for the inspiration for this style. theirs is the first coldwork that i ever saw pics of, and i was fascinated by the whole concept of it and just had to try something along those lines...
