Recycled Fused Oceana Glass Tiles

Recycled Fused Oceana Glass Tiles

(Sun-Toys)
Recycled Oceana Glass Mosaic Tiles

Mosaic 1" tiles with 1/2" overlay fused of Recycled Oceana Art Glass. The tiles are made of old stock Oceana Art Glass. Oceana is a 2 and 3 color Tiffany Style Mottled Art Glass made in Santa Cruz, CA and closed in 2001. For years we collected what are called the end cuts. Oceana was a hand rolled art glass and when the roller went over the hot glass, some of the wildest color patterns pushed to the edges. The edges were trimmed off the make a square sheet of glass and these were called the end cuts. We cut some of these end cuts into 1" and 1/2" squares and fused them together making these small tiles used in mosaic designs.

These tile were made for a custom home in Ben Lomond, CA to be used in a backsplash. They are abstract in nature with a 2D effect on the surface. The glass used is a Tiffany Style Mottled Art Glass produced by Oceana Glass Company. This glass was not intended for fusion and had a dramatic color change upon firing. If you would like to make your own tiles from old Oceana stock (94 to 96 coe) - I have several pounds in abstract shapes available for sale.
Forbidden Fruit

Forbidden Fruit

(thoskite)
This is a series of works that explore "loaded" images. The ultimate loaded image eventually becomes an icon. Whether it's a smilely face or something found above the alter in a Byzantine church, they touch and get their charge from the essence of a primeval place in the human psyche. Working w/ loaded abstract shapes or more literal ones like those that come from the human body, gets more interesting the 'edgier' they get.

Under the Sea with Porthole to Surface

Stained Glass Heirlooms Exclusive

This window is magnificent! The under the water scene is as you would find it in true life. The sea creatures in the window are absolutely stunning in detail and are made of the finest glass available. The sea turtles in the top middle of the water are sand carved into the glass to give them a off in the distance look. The window has flashed glass (very expensive) which was sandblasted and painted with glass enamels and fired in our kiln to make the fish look realistic. The manta ray are gracefully swimming, while the octopus is lounging around. The coral in the window is matched up to coral we found in the ocean while on a trip snorkeling.

In the middle of the window is a porthole to the surface where dolphins are jumping out of the o

Hans Godo Frabel

Hans Godo Frabel

(HansGodoFrabel)
Hans Godo Frabel was the third child in a family with four children. The tumultuous political climate in existence after WWII necessitated a family migration to West Germany. After living in several different cities, Frabel began to look at glass as a means to a career at the age of only 15. He obtained a traineeship as a scientific glassblower at the prestigious Jena Glaswerke in Mainz, West Germany, and earned the degree of journeyman in 1959.

In 1965 he came to the United States and settled in Atlanta. There he obtained a position at the Georgia Institute of Technology in their scientific glass blowing laboratory. During this time he continued his studies of glass as an art form at Emory University and Georgia State. He continued to work at Georgia Tech for two more years until budget cutbacks eliminated his position in 1967.

While working at Georgia Tech, Frabel’s creative talents were often sought after by professors and acquaintances alike to create crystal glass sculptures as gifts for friend

(G.PaulLucas)
I am really a mixed-media artist, and I tend to use whatever media seems most appropriate to express a certain idea, but again and again I am drawn back to glass to say what I need to say. While a graduate student in Glass at Tulane University, I spent time trudging through some of the great swamps and bayous that surround New Orleans. Out the these experiences the Swamp Series was born--large-scale wallpieces of fused glass and steel. In a sense these are really large fused glass mosaics that attempt to capture my sensations while deep in the swamp. More recently, my work has turned from wallpieces to sculpture, and I've been stacking Borosilicate glass to create a series of pieces I call "Borostack". I think of these pieces as mosaics, also.
