Refractive Relief Sculpture--bend light to 'paint' a picture, with the environment as a palette and cut glass as the brush. These sculptures are created with hundreds or thousands of pieces of stacked hand-cut float glass. Images in the glass are created by the refraction of background light.

The Process

Pictures of the construction and design process of Illuminating the Spirit. Working with the kids was the fun part. The challenge was really getting the lighting to illuminate the entire sculpture. We'd never worked with plexi glass before, so that was quite a challenge to cut and drill. The other challenge was realizing that the discs had to be put in a very particular order to have the right amount of coverage and colors needed to flow smoothly.

Here is my second chandelier. It's not as big as my first one but I'm stoked on it because it's much more my own design. The whole inside frame is completely covered with glass and isn't visible, including the part attached to the cieling. Lots more ideas where this came from. Thanks for looking.

Wall Sconce "Bloom"

This is my latest Wall Sconce. 14"W x 20"H. Still perfecting this design. I'm not totally satisfied but I'm getting closer. It looks much better in person cuz lighting is difficult for photography.

Welcome to my newly installed “Bone Chandelier”. It is a U.L. listed kiln fired glass and copper plated steel chandelier that is 36” round and 42” tall (chain not included) for a private residence.
There are 18 individual “bone” arms that make up the upper section, which is illuminated with 3 100watt “chrome” bottom bulbs; the lower light cavity has 3 150watt incandescent bulbs.

ALL COMMENTS ARE WELCOME!!!!
Warm regards,

Gundi * Featured Page *

Gundi

(Gundi)
Each of Gundi's pieces is painstakingly created. Plate glass is cut into small pieces, then tumbled to remove sharp edges, and fused with an ultra-strong bonding adhesive into a multifaceted sculpture. Such pieces glint beautifully in the sunlight during the day, and form spectacular table centre-pieces at night, especially when illuminated from below or with spot lighting from above.

Gundi's sculptural works reveal shapes that contrast strongly with regularly layered levels of glass. This year she has continued to infuse many of her pieces with bold, colorful edging, which can be fully customized according to taste. Clients have the option of ordering sculptures that use crisp and clear premium Starphire glass as the base material - Starphire gives a wonderfully clean look and an added dimension of contrast with the edging. New this year is a blue glass which complements the regular green, smoky charcoal and clear Starphire.
