octopus oil lamp

this is the second large lamp I have tried...the octopus is all done out of amazon bronze. It is suspended inside a piece of 95mm tubing with some spanish moss stuffed in the bottom. The wick/holder(not yet intalled) will fit into an 8mm hole in the tip of the nose. The nose/head are hollow, and the legs are solid rod. hope ya like it.

Pine Tree oil lamp...

Here is my newest oil lamp vessel. It stands over a foot tall and is made of
a quadruple honeycomb with two layers of original millenium moss and 2 layers of amazon lagoon.The reversal section is polaris, og moss and silver. The top of the vessel and also the axe in
the stump is touched with purple dichro.
Thanks Derek for the ogmoss samples and dichro scraps!
oil lamps
(

Oil lamps have been used for centuries to illumnate our homes and at one time even to work glass (hence the name lamp working) here are a few that I have made. More to come soon. YES they do work but, the flame is very small and, one good bump by the dog and your going to have a home owners claim to explain!!!
My oil lamps
(

Heres an oil lamp I completed on the first of December 2003.. The center peice of the lamp has been coldworked into a six-sided spear that has the same shape as a Quartz crystal. This peice is approx. 11 inches tall!
halloween lamp
(

)
13"hx4"w
This is my first large oil lamp. I made it after watching Charlie Brown and the great pumpkin the day before halloween. The intention was to have an evil pumkin patch complete with black thorns, and a rat crawling up it, but the rats tail slumped a bit while sealing the piece in the outer tube...now it looks like some kind of old cat with a pointy nose. I used an extra bat as a handle on the filler funel, and put the scaredy cat on the top at the last minute...it throws a great shadow when lit.
Grey wall hanging oil lamp

The oil lamp itself is about 12 inches. Not shown with a wick this time, just didn't have one handy for pics! Decorative top and wall hanger. Made with all North Star powders. Feb 2004
Dot box lamp
(

)
What a perfect lamp for my desk! Its powder work and dot box on the base. This piece stands 14 inches tall including the lamp shade. Matt cleverly put an indent in the base to allow the cord room instead of popping a hole. There are 3 different lighting environments used in these pictures.

16"x6" This is an oil lamp that I made for my wife on Valentine's day. The inner vessel is made from cobalt blue, and has three arms that branch off at different intervals. The center of the lamp comes to a point were there are two swans attached. The outer vase and foot were made from 120mm and are ring sealed onto the inner piece. With the inner lamp filled with oil, and the vase filled with water up to the bottom of the swans, the three flames hover right on top of the water...fill it with flowers and it makes a nice Valentine's scene. thanks for looking.

3"x4" Just another lamp I made to go in my halloween display. The entire piece is hollow, so it can be filled with oil. I think some giant bats are in order for this year.
"Red Lamp"
(

)
This oil lamp was made with rust red fine frit and dark elvis for the stem and lip wrap. True height is 5.8 inches. This oil lamp is currently on display at " Oceanic Arts Gallery" in Newport, Oregon.
Hanging oil lamps.
(

)
A little something different from a regular oil lamp, these are great to hang in those special little spaces inside.
Each has a mix of glass, stone or silver beads with a stainless steal cable run through them for support. They hang about 2-1/2' down.
Thanks for looking!
Tri pod oil lamp.

Having some fun with powder and a little sand blasting this week.
I'm pretty happy with the way that this piece came out. The removable base was a fun challenge for me to get it symmetrical. Stands 6" tall.
Hope you enjoy!
cobalt blue oil lamp 10/31/2006

Blue tubing, had the four "arms" laying around for a while and didn't know what to do with them. I had no direction and this is what came out! This is my first post on this site. Happy Halloween! Thanks for looking!
the broken serpent
(
clyzo
)
this was my first attepemt at an oil lamp. it is suspended on the neck of a serpent. i was disappointed when it broke in halve the next day, i could have fixed it so no one had ever known it had broken , but instead i decided to accent the brake. it to me signifies change amidst adversity. our world around us is fragile we must treat it delicately. also from one side the serpent apeares broken and from another side the serpent seams to be whole, representing the duality of nature , tell me what you think.?
