furnace dreams in vienna :-)

(Carlee)
i had a bead-class in vienna at my friend roberts hotshop...so after teaching beads to my students (and to robert too hahaha)....he tried to teach me some furnace stuff... oh my... this is so hard... and so hot... and so exciting (and i was such a talent-free student i guess) i gave up my chihuly-intentions and we tried to make a bead in the gloryhole... it took us 2 hours...it was so much fun (even if the bead looks terrible :-)
at least i can say: robert is a gifted beadmaker now ! (YOU THE MAN and thanks for the peppers)
greets from germany

(AshbyGochenour)
Greetings.
We recently did a lampworking
demo... along side of
soft glass furnace workers.
It was called the first annual
Virginia Hot Glass Festival which
co-insided with a big historic festival
in a historic town called the Victorian
Festival. Since all the elements came
together, we had a lot of curious onlookers. I hope we conveyed part of the
history of lampworking up to this present
day and conveyed some of our hopes and aspirations for a beautiful futre.
Thanks to my good friends J and Sweet
for also doing demos and helping with
all the hard work of setting up.

We didn't get to take too many photos
of our demos as we were pretty busy
trying to pass out specs, telling the
crowd not to look if they don't have specs
and of course working the glass!

Photos of Sweet (short fella dreadi), Ashby (thats me...) and Jamie (Ol' Flash) tall
person in red shirt...

We got invted back next year and my only hope is to have a dydinium shield as there was limited safety specs between
our demo and the hot shop/offhand demo
going on beside us.

Vac. In Biot, France_Museum of Glass

(DanEllis)
Vacation in the south of France. Biot is a small village about 30 kilometers from Nice. It is known in the area for glass blowing and there are hot shops scattered all over town. The day I was there it was almost closing time and they were making production glasses, small, about a pint size. All the prodo glass they do has tiny bubbles in the glass which is intentional. In the sub folder are finished pieces are on display in thier gallery and were made by the blowers here and others from all over the world

Here I am as well as some of my friends and the renters at Prodigy Glassworks. Most of us have been working together since we started blowing, which has been several years now.
