My Studio - aka "The Sweat Shop"

Here are some photos of where I create my tiny glass works of art. I call this my "sweat shop" because...well...I live in Florida and the setup is in my garage. Enough said! Man, I can't wait until winter! lol

Our new space!!!!

Well, our new studio is finally set up and everything in place. It still needs fine tuning, but we have all winter for that. Our hood comes in this week, after that we are ready to start teaching classes!! We will be offering beginning and advacned beadmaking classes in soft glass and boro, as well as marbles and hollow form. One on one's are welcome, and we will list dates for group classes as soon as our new website is done. Our website should be done over the next week. Thanks for looking!!

Here are some pics of my studio upgrades.
Vent hood is 46x31x12. It is rectangular ducts from home depot with extra flats between to give more width. Ducts are 8" to the fans then reduces to 7" to exit the house. The fans are SECO Air Hog 8" utility blowers 1250 cfm each. I found them on ebay for 69$. Torch table is 7'x4' and 32" tall, covered in removable sheetrock (its an experiment working out great so far), Sheet glass table is 8'x4'x 41" tall and has dividers on the bottom for standing glass, It is covered in masonite with a 3'x4' plexi section taped under wet cutting area. Pegboard on the side by cutting station to hang bits in bins/tools. Thin under shelf is for bins to store scraps/supplies.

Marbleslinger, Chris Carlson and I came together for a two or three days to make a series of tribute marbles to a few of our favorite glass artists using the Graal technique. Robert Mickelsen, Josh Sable, and Gateson Recko were the 'victims'. Captions say the rest. Thanks for looking!

(glassbackwards)
Our new gallery is almost finished. The pics of course never give the original subject justice makes it kinda look small and in one shot like the floor is askew. The floor I think turned out very well though(stained it my self) Just have a few more things to acomplish-light socket covers, paint touch up and this and that. A new tinted window coming next month some time will look out into the glass studio that is adjacent to the gallery so customers can shop and watch. thanks for checkin it out, and we hope to be back up and running by mid Jan.

My old studio...

My old studio...

I have been wanting to do this for a long time... the bench is 8' by 8' and has a shelf underneath for cases of glass, it is topped with 3/4 inch plywood, then hardibacker board, then stainless steel... the bench also hides a four-port manifold with quick connects... thanks to Jake Harper and Perry Barnard out in Wimberley TX... together we cut, welded, and grinded the metal to make the glavanised hood... two 8" SECO air hog fans pull about 2450 cfm... the fans then push the exhaust outside (thanks Ro)

This is my studio in my back garden.
I have emptied it and built a bench for the sole purpose of being able to produce hot glass work.
The previous owner of my house built this as a sound proof studio...so no ventilation as of yet.

New York Glass Class with Chris and Jackie Rice

New York Glass Class with Chris and Jackie Rice

Glass class in NY with Chris and Jackie Rice
We went trucking up to NY and took a class with Chris and Jackie Rice. This class was awesome, everything that we had hoped it would be. We learned new techniques and tweaked some old ones. They are truely great people with the imagination that makes them great artists. No question was too crazy or strange to them, if we had a question they were there, willing to answer it or better yet show us. Thanks Chris and Jackie for one more awesome adventure that we can add to this strange trip that we are taking into the glass world.
