A Little Bit of Spinach

You know that embarrassing moment when you're out to dinner, perhaps on a first date, when you realize you have something stuck in your teeth? Well this little fellow was having a nice munch on some greens and found himself in the unfortunate situation of getting a rather large piece of spinach stuck in his teeth. Luckily he is armed with lengthy antennae which come in quite handy in such a situation! Made of Effetre glass over a GTT Phantom - measures about 2.25" x 2" x 0.75" For sale on eBay - item number: 120311366125 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120311366125

This one is another handmix using double ap and unobtanium. It is 12"x10"x5" tall. Always fun to make. Can't wait to hook up the new kiln and make some really BIG ones.

Navigator

this piece was a while in the making, I kept coming back to the shell and staring at it until I had to do something about making something with it; it's over a foot long and weighs a couple of kilos. We'd bought a few to use for "Ode to the Sunking" and "Venus Rising", both of which are somewhere in our image gallery. The stand is a fish skeleton come chariot. The gathers for the tentacles were so massive that I had to get Laurie to stand on a chair to hold the punty while I pulled down on the other end with diamond shears. We ended up doing 3 pulls. The circle of the nautilus and the dissecting line formed by the tentacles, pointing at the stars, make the shape of an astrolabe, hence "Navigator". I'm so glad I invested in a GTT Mirage!

Sweet Nothingness

Introducing the new Dipper series, one marble dipped in another. Aiming for the 2/3 to 1/3 ratio for dynamic balance; everything is better with a little something else mixed in.

07 Mosaic Mural

Created in Freedom, Maine while teaching flameworking at a summer camp. Made primarily of glass mosaics, with many flameworked marbles, furnace glass, ceramic elements, and a cedar tree. Thanks to Dan Meadow, Luke Bloomfield and hundreds of campers for their helpful hands in placing the glass.

Pretty in Pink

A voluptuous "Bridesmaid" begonia bud bursting open, ready to be converted into a brooch, wired to hat, or add with other flowers for a cake topper. 90 COE Bullseye glass, with embedded copper wire at petal bases, in the old Italian/Bohemian style, for strength. Sparkly aventurine green leaves. NFS, just experimenting with technique of strengthening delicate floral pieces with wire, using the Carlo Dona wire-holding tool that I bought from Roberto Dona in Murano.
