Glacial Jelly.......

This is a collaboration with myself and JD Anderson. This one is very interesting to see the jelly demagnified. It looks as if it is frozen in ice. Or almost as if it is floating in air on the inside of a frosted ball, due to the high polish of the face.

these are two nice lamps i recently made with yellow and red lamp shades i made at trinity studios. i used to make just the copper lamp base but i have recently learned these with help of my good friends at trinity studios.... the shades i used to use were made by russel stankus. he is no longer with us due to an ongoing battle with throat cancer. he was very inpiring to me and taught me many things as and artist.he is missed and loved very much! thank you russel!

glass insects installations

Hi, I'm Stamatis, from Greece. These are sample photos of my work. When I started working on sculpture at ASFA I initially experimented with various materials including clay, wood, and ice. Along with the study of sculpture sketching which was also part of the curriculum. Other studies of mine led me to explore insects and their incredible and mysterious world. I realised their ability to survive all over this planet, their ability to transform (metamorphose) during different stages of their lives. Iíve began to admire their strength rather than their weakness that most of us see in them. I find that their bodies have a much greater sculptural interest than the human body Thanx for viewing.I'll appreciate any comments & i'll try 2 answer any questions

September 2007

Not to many marbles being made this summer on my part. Moving my shop and setting again ended up being more time consuming then I thought. I am 95% done with setting up. I am excited to say the it is the best shop I have end had. I hope it will reflect in my work for years to come. Here are some marbles I have worked on over the last month.

Simply Striking

Trynig to make a complete surface marble, w/ amber purple, or triple passion, is so difficult not to get that reduction, especially at the end, as you'll notice the slight reduction on the one end. I have about 25 or so marbles to photograph, so bear with me and I'll get them up soon...all types of good stuff, fumers, large geodes, many surface mibs with the striking colors, and some aren't as tempermental as the Am/purps, making it easier to get the desired reults I should say. Also I have been taking to Sable's photo style, I just love the way he has been putting them together.

Jellyfish Chandelier

Laurie's first ever big venture into boro resulted in this! We both love scuba diving and get a lot of inspiration from the sea, as well as illustrated books on natural history. Her expertise is in pate de verre, casting and really just about every aspect of kiln working glass,so the bell of the jelly is made using a combination of pate de verre and lost wax casting. The tentacles (I didn't actually count them, but there's a lot) she worked in boro at the flame, a huge amount of work with what relatively little teaching she's had so far. We also neglected to measure it before it went into the gallery, it's approximately 140cm long and the bell is about 40cm diameter.
