Bird Studies

These works are a follow-up to some previous work I posted. I have spent a few years now working with bird forms, which have eventually evolved into these. I am interested in finding forms that illude to the subject matter without being too literal.

Study of the Human Form

I have been working on getting realistic movement in nudes, facial detail and now clothed figures. I find soda lime, 104, to be easier to add detail than in borosilicate. I will be experimenting with 90 coe as well. It remains a challenge to have the figures turn out technically as I want. My focus on this work is more about expressing the idea or message in the piece and its flow.

Mandola- Persian Blue Lotus- Petals- Triple purple Passion Leaves- some new india green (the lighter of the two almost looks like Jade) Stem- Spring luster and green sparkle... I hope you like it! Fume Stack

...with Frit - 1.75" made 9-20-2006 It's really hard to catch, on camera, the full effect of the depth in this one... There are so many different light/effect combinations. In the second to last image you can somewhat see the inside (hidden) layers of frit.
