Little Black Book 2007

Little Black Book is a new series of work by Rachel Gretton. The work is created in response to a new phase in her emotional journey: motherhood. The work addresses a lot of complex often conflicting circumstances: joy, anxiety, change, the loss of identity and dreams.

ponies of august

A few more ponies. The new design I am doing has simplified the "Mane" of the seahorse. I like making them outrageous but this more simplistic design is quite a bit more popular with the tourists.

"Hokusai Study in Glass" panel

I was contacted by a friend from undergrad in the late Spring of 2007 with the news that a third anniversary gift is traditionally glass and with a request for information about commissioning a window that was inspired by Japanese woodcut prints, if possibly in particular using Hokusai's "Great Swell at Kawangawa" as a jumping off point. Well it's taken me a good solid season but the window is finally finished and delivered, measuring a mere 18.5" x 14.5" (insanity) and perhaps looking a little too much like the original. Still.. I'm super happy with the results. The piece is entitled "Hokusai Study in Glass" Please excuse my light table for its unevenness of the yellowish light and for the lack of photo taking space above it, resulting in lens distortions of straight lines.

Coldwork Action!!!

I don't get to do a lot of coldworking, but I really enjoy the end product after the hard and tedious grinding and polishing is done!! While I was in Cali (August 2007) I got to work with Kaj Beck and I did some coldworking in his shop!! His work is tight and he had some sweet tips about the coldworking process which he shared with me!!! Check out my pieces!! Aloha!

'Current' by Mark Leputa

This piece always seemed very oceanic to me - fluid, cold, deep, organic, shell-like. copper blue and cerulean blue blown, sandblasted, cut, and polished glass 8" x 7" x 5.5" approx. 2007 NZ/PA

'Stability' by Mark Leputa

This piece is titled as such because it doesn't have a base per say. It rocks around like a spinning top on its side and will never tip over or roll out of a certain area without the help of an outside force. Aquamarine and Citron blown, cut, and polished glass 8 inches by 6 inches 2007 NZ
