2008 - 06 "Clear Opal Facet" and some close-ups

This is a small clear opal facet with a few close-ups. The piece features a large red Gilson opal setting on top of a gold and silver implosion. The back has a pinwheeled dot pattern and the front has a clear facet cutting through the optics. I had fun taking pictures of this one and added a few close ups to go with the gallery. Piece measures 1 3/4" thanks!

2008 - 06 "Accidental Patriot"

Just in time for the fourth of July! The colors on this one struck a little more patriotic than I was thinking, but who doesn't love a good fireworks display? The center of the piece features a gold and silver implosion with a large gilson opal resting in the middle. Layers of Blue Passion, Ruby 4, and Purple Luster powder have been built up with gold fume under Dark plum for the final layer. Multiple frits and powders were used to texture the back giving the piece an organic and metallic feel. After cutting and polishing the face to reveal the center, the piece was carved on a diamond wheel to reveal layers of color, while creating a firework-like star pattern. The carving also peels back the final layer of plum and gold fume giving it a reflective golden shimmer. The piece measures approx. 2.5" inches in diameter. Thanks for looking.

fun stuff

here's a bit of fun stuff. Big huge massive thanks to Tim Bassett and Tom Galbraith for pulling me into this crazy stuff. It's been doing my head in, but what can I do? This gas and electricity stuff is as exciting as it is unexpected. I'm sure there's a logic behind it all, but I'm only just beginning to think about understanding it all ... These are my first pieces. Tim and I are down to have an exhibition early next year, but I think we're going to need one sooner than that, I'm hooked! :P sorry about the quality of some pix, they were taken on the phone camera cheers Chris
