*Benny "the Rock Stacker" has a posse

tribute to Benny "The Rock Stacker" -Seattle street artist More pics on ThatAintArt.com video coming soon... Article from "The Stanger":by Brendan Kiley Hanging in the Balance City Boots Fremont Street Artist; Some Neighbors Say Good Riddance On the other hand, maybe not all publicity is good publicity. Fawzi Benhariz, also known as Benny, also known as "the rock balancer," has been building intricately balanced rock sculptures in Fremont for more than two years. The City of Seattle has shut down his sidewalk sculptures in part, Benny thinks, because of a profile of him in the April issue of Seattle Metropolitan magazine. Some locals, who describe Benny as a great artist and neighborhood icon, are pissed; others, who say he's a moody public nuisance, are relieved. Roughly two weeks after the profile was published, and two years after Benny began regularly building his rock sculptures, the city's Department of Transportation said he had tto have a Street Use permit..."

Scarab with Dung Ball

The scarab beetle enjoyed sacred status among ancient Egyptians. The scarab was linked to Khepri, god of the rising sun. The supposed self-creation of the beetle resembles that of Khepri, who creates himself out of nothing. The ancient Egyptians believed that Khepri renewed the sun every day before rolling it above the horizon, then carried it through the other world after sunset, only to renew it, again, the next day. The image of the scarab, conveying ideas of transformation, renewal, and resurrection, is ubiquitous in ancient Egyptian religious and funerary art. Made of Effetre glass over a GTT Phantom. Measures about 2" long and 1.5" tall. For sale at: myworld.ebay.com/wesley_fleming_glass

Magnifying Optical Table

This table is made of Beech wood, a digital image printed on vinyl, clear sheet glass, and stage light lenses. Inlayed into the top of the table are 5 magnifying lenses that i took out of old stage lights. About 9 inches below the lenses, sits the shelf which the digital image of yellow red and orange squares is inlayed into. When you look down at the table any slight movement creates a seperate composition in each magnifying lense. Also when you look the colors blend together, tricking you eye to see pinks and sometimes even blue.

Stolen!!

This piece was stolen from Viewpoints Gallery in Makawao, Hawaii in late February. It was about 12 inches tall, hanging in an alcove and slightly fragile. The thief was quite bold. Im glad someone liked it just not that much.
