JC Herrell, born and raised in Wisconsin, has been a student of art since childhood. During her adolescence JC received formal art training from various instructors and local artists, as well as at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. In 1996, she sought something to say in her art by choosing to study philosophy at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. After college, JC spent several years as a corporate trainer and while in that career, began to feel both great stress and the need to melt glass. While investigating how to do that, she was lead to lampwork bead making by a local stained glass store. JC ordered the equipment, taught herself lampworking and has grown to love the endless possibilities in glass beads. In 2005, JC became a full time glass artist and is looking forward to a lifetime of exploring glass.

Walls are interesting things. Sometimes they seem to come from nowhere. They block people physically, socially, politically, financially, emotionally and in so many other ways. They keep some people in and other people out. Walls are meant to get in the way. Many walls may seem be bad news at first but I've found they can also lead to interesting opportunities that may not have been seen if the wall didn't make me stop and turn around. Walls can also be decorated and hold art. Walls themselves can be art. They can hold treasures and provide protection. Walls have been around a long time, but have changed relatively little. Walls are interesting.

Some fused tiles I've been work on for a few months. The color fades are created with enamels. The 104 COE tiles are supported with clear boro stands. Tiles measure 3-5 inches tall. Inspired by Melody Johnson's 1997 art quilt, Streetdance.

Someone told me these hole-less beads are called marbles. Created in 104 COE and inspired by conversations my favorite marble hunk, Brad Brandalino (Anakin). They measure 1 1/4" - 1 1/2".

These remind me of something spun. The colors look dyed like spun wool. They feel like spun pottery. They're bright... alive with color and texture. I feel like wildly, playful spinning the whole day away!!

These were all created around the concept of thorns, though there's an evolution into icicles, ferns and mammoth fur, too.

This series is inspired by the idea that there have been computers in our life, in one form or another, for thousands of years.

I was wondering what kinds of things would be fun to put on a glass ring when I glanced at an orchid Veda Bickley gave me at AGI. I was inspired to put some orchids on a ring.

I'm exploring floral beads. Yes, I call these florals. I was thinking about gardens, the patterns that groups of plants make and the rythms they create.
