In these sculptures, Ehlenberger contrasts conceptual representions of creativity (imagination) and strong emotion (joy, anger, ecstasy) through the use of wild arrays of neon and backlit glass lenses behind glowing foregrounds of transparent multi-colored aluminum.

Ehlenberger's love of cumulus clouds comes out in this series of wall sculptures. The Clouds sculptures are made up of multiple distinct layers each providing a sense of movement and interaction with one another. The background is brushed aluminum and the foreground pieces are aluminum painted in translucent white with neon units sandwiched between, casting their distinctive glows of luminous color. aluminum, glass lenses and neon 72" x 48" x 6"

Influenced by Kandinsky's and Miro's work early in his education, the artist reflects on the relationship of color and form as reduced to basic geometric forms. Through the use of simple arcs interacting with geometric shapes, the artist creates a dynamic tension between the action suggested by the arcs and the stability represented in the geometric forms. This dynamic tension is further enhanced with the use of luminous color, establishing a precarious balance of the elements in the sculptures. aluminum, glass lenses and neon 48" x 32" x 5"

Ehlenberger's sculpture has been strongly influenced by his appreciation for the sculpture of the Constructivist art movement of the early 1900's. Popularized by sculptors such as Naum Gabo and Vladmir Tatlin, Constructivist sculpture is characterized by its focus on geometric shapes with simple curves and linearity. It is generally abstract with an industrial quality and often incorporates industrial materials such as metal, wood, and glass. Ehlenberger's personal approach to Constructivist sculpture is to add the element of light as a focal point of the sculpture, emphasizing the relationship between the shapes and forms of the sculpture.

These contemporary series of wall sconces offer simple but elegant solutions to ambient lighting for home or commercial applications. A contrast of colors is presented in these original and unique wall sconces that incorporate media such as antique glass lenses and a variety of neon colors combined with brushed aluminum. While the standard finish is brushed aluminum, other options are available.

This group of sculptures emphasizes fluid, curvilinear forms, melodious and gentle in character. Ehlenberger uses light to emphasize relationships between the forms while his use of colors lends emotional impact to the work.

The Point, Lines, Arcs Series of works are about the simplicity of line and form. Falling back to the basic forms of point, line and circle, these pieces mean to engage the viewer in contemplation of representation and relationships. The point is the represention of singularity and singularity, to the artist's view, is the representation of the self. It is the point of consciousness and awareness. The line represents movement or action but also may represent obstruction or boundary. Thus these sculptures play out a story of action and interaction taking place around a circle, the universal symbol of the world. They represent, in a minimalist fashion, the human condition. The use of color, in turn, adds an emotional content further open to interpretation.

The sculptures of the Tectonic Series consist of multiple distinct layers each providing a sense of movement and interaction with one another. They are about stability(the white central piece) and the multitude of forces constantly influencing and affecting change. The background is brushed aluminum and the foreground pieces are aluminum painted in opaque white as well as translucent blue with neon units sandwiched between, casting their distinctive glows of luminous color.

In the Veil Series, a "veil" of silicone is placed in front of the neon allowing the neon colors to interact and blend within the matrix of the silicone. The effect is to create a unique "canvas of light", analogous to the use of water colors on paper.

This is a fantasy landscape of Venus where the vegetation is luminous and the lakes glow. The purple back-lit terrain is brushed aluminum with a shimmering overcoat of translucent golden paint and the sky is brushed aluminum with planetary glass lenses backlit with neon. The lake is translucent silicone lit from behind with aqua neon. 48" x 32"

The most dramatic sculptures from Ehlenberger's "Venusian World," the luminous "Jellyfish" suspend in mid-air, glowing with a life of their own. Individually hand-blown by the artist with careful attention to detail, the neon tentacles radiate with rich subtle hues.
Each "Jellyfish" is unique and is powered by a 12VDC adaptor with plugs into a standard 110V electric outlet and is suspended from the celing by a thin acrylic-coated stainless steel cable. While strong enough to display individually, the "Jellyfish" have an especially powerful impact when displayed in a group.

The "Venusian Swamp Lotus" series is one of many series of works in which Ehlenberger explores a fantasy world of Venusian flora and fauna. The Swamp Lotus Series is characterized by an open blown-glass form with a single hand-blown neon element emerging from the center.
Like his other Venusian Flora, it can be mounted in a variety of wood or aluminum bases designed for single or multiple Flora. They may also be incorporated into small or large scale "Venusian Garden" installations.

The "Venusian Clamora" series is one of many series of works in which Ehlenberger explores a fantasy world of Venusian flora and fauna.
The Venusian Clamora Series is characterized by a clam-like blown-glass form with a complex, bifurcated hand-blown neon element emerging from the center.
Like his other Venusian Flora, it can be mounted in a variety of wood or aluminum bases designed for single or multiple Flora. They may also be incorporated into small or large scale "Venusian Garden" installations.

Ehlenberger's interpretation of his "Venusian World" comes together in a variety of "Venusian Gardens," including small, self-contained free-standing "Venusian Gardens" as well as small and large installations.
This garden concept is continuously expanding into new and different realms with different components and different applications from small, home gardens to large scale aquarium settings and theatre stage set installations.
At this time, there are three basic types of Venusian Garden sculptures: Marsh, Swamp and Rock Gardens. The Marsh Gardens are characterized by aluminum bases, the Swamp Gardens have bases incorporating glass underlit with neon and the Rock Gardens incorporate black stone.
Each "Venusian Garden" sculpture or installation is made up of interchangeable components from a variety of Venusian Flora including Swamp Flowers, Swamp Lotus, Clamora and others.

This series of sculptures in Ehlenberger's "Venusian World" explores fantasy Landscapes with luminous vegetation, glowing lakes and craggy mountains. His distinctive approach to the Landscape incorporates such media as silicone, translucent paint on brushed aluminum and back-lit lenses to evoke an other-worldly ambience.
Some landscapes are executed in the traditional western horizontal format. However, as a consequence of Ehlenberger's love of ancient Chinese and Japanese landscape painting presented in a vertical format, he began exploring landscapes in an Asian style.
Subsequently Ehlenberger also developed his own, unique approach to the Landscape, the "discScape". A small manifestation of the Landscape, only 16" in diameter, its shape alludes to the spherical shape of the planet.
