The column is made of an exotic wood called Bubinga from Africa - it shimmers almost like dichroic in red, orange and honey brown. The lamp was so heavy I had to make wood clamps to hold it in place.

Made in 3 layers of glass- thin clear base, middle section reds, orange and yellow. Then a clear iridized cap.

|
I used several different dichroic sunset colors with a ripple texture.

An inlaid fused glass switch plate to add a little flair. made of Candy Apple Dichroic with a black base. I first tried a clear base but that didn't bring out enough color.

It is very rare to find curl like that, caused by stress in the wood while it is growing.

|
I had lots of fun designing the base- flames coming up the base and the 'hooves' made of slices of Bubinga and Wenge.

A larger view showing the base flames and the shimmering wood curl.

 |
A little added bonus- when I first turned on the lamp, I realized the dichroic tips projected amazing flame patterns on the ceiling!
