Welcome to WildFire Designs Gallery of Fused Glass and Exotic Wood - I make home furnishings of fused glass and exotic woods with names like Bubinga, Cocobolo, and Wenge to name a few. A few years ago I became fascinated with Dichroic fused glass, bought a kiln, and have been combining the two art forms ever since.
Although Tucson, Arizona and the Southwest provide some inspiration for my work, my real design passion is Art Nouveau. After the Wildfire lamp and the Argyle chair the epiphany came that my style is what I refer to as Modern Art Nouveau. It has heavier, stronger lines than traditional Art Nouveau furniture. The inclusion of glass with the exotic wood especially works well with Art Nouveau.
I rarely take commissions, except for "interesting" requests. By day I do accounting consulting and buy, restore, and sell vintage Arts & Crafts furniture- at night I make very exotic wood dust and usually throw a piece of glass in the kiln to cook before hitting the sack.
Feel free to post a comment if you like what you see!

Inspired by the high backed chair design of renowned turn-of-the-century furniture artist and architect Charles Renee Macintosh is my version of his beautiful chair. Argyle is made of curly (or Tiger stripe) Purpleheart exotic wood (a rare form of Purpleheart) with fused Purple Dichroic glass inset panels. Commissioned by the Y.W.C.A. in Williamsport, PA for their Chair-ity auction.

A Chair in the Making
This piece was commissioned by the YWCA in Williamsport, PA for their Chair-ity auction. I have based the design on a high backed chair design of turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau furniture artist and acrhitect Charles Renee Mactintosh. Mr. Macintosh has always been an inspiration to my work. So my take on his chair design, hopefully, pays him the utmost respect.

Floor standing lamp of fused Dichroic glass and Bubinga exotic wood..... Made in 3 layers of glass- thin clear base, middle section of reds, orange and yellow. Then a clear iridized cap. The column is made from an exotic wood called figured Bubinga- it shimmers almost as much as the Dichroic!

I have several friends that are Jewish and have been to many ceremonies. My favorite ceremony is Havdalah, performed on Saturday evening. The day before is also my chance to taste that wonderful Challah bread!- yum. The ceremony uses a wine glass, a candle, and a spice box. And I thought, why not make a set of fused glass and exotic wood? Several of my friends have commissioned me to make them a set. These, however, are my best yet....

A fused glass and metal table commissioned by friends of mine with an Indian spirt theme. Each fused panel symbolizes a different spirit: The Sun for Fire, Waves for Water, Mountains for earth, Swirling clounds for Sky.The metal frame was made by Leiloni Designs. It came together nicely, matching the colors of my friends' beautiful Southwest home.
