These are a few of my projects.
I've been lampworking since the begining of 1999. Mostly self-taught, but I have many friends who lampwork as well, all influenced by different sources, who have shared and exchanged knowledge and know how, resulting in everybody's growth and improvement, including my own. Lucio Bubacco and Robert Mickelsen's work has greatly influenced me. I worked with Lucio Bubacco in his studio in Murano for 3 months as well as being his TA for the calsses he taught at Scuola Del Vetro Abate Zanetti, in Murano. I've taken two workshops with Robert Mickelsen. I'm currently living on the island of O'ahu, Hawaii.

I don't get to do a lot of coldworking, but I really enjoy the end product after the hard and tedious grinding and polishing is done!!
While I was in Cali (August 2007) I got to work with Kaj Beck and I did some coldworking in his shop!! His work is tight and he had some sweet tips about the coldworking process which he shared with me!!! Check out my pieces!!
Aloha!

Here's a tree I made last night. It's the biggest one by far that I've done like this. It's all solid. I used Twilight, Peacock, and Agua Azul for the whole thing. It stands about 10 inches tall by ten inches wide. It's the first tree I've made that's not brown and green. I like it!! It's a wedding gift for a couple who both work for the Forestry Service on the mainland. maybe they'll use it to hang jewelry on... I hope you like it.
Aloha!

Yoda- Silver strike and Green sparkle. Mandola- Persian Blue Lotus- Petals- Triple purple Passion Leaves- some new india green (the lighter of the two almost looks like Jade) Stem- Spring luster and green sparkle...
I hope you like it!

I haven't posted in a while, and this is part of the reason!! I just moved into a new house, about 7 minutes away from my old place, but it's dope!!!
My new roommate Matt, turns exotic woods on his lathe and makes super nice bowls and what not, so we both needed new workshops. So we had a couple built in the carport/garage!!!
It took a while befor ethe electrician could come in and get things wired up so I haven't been working much. But that's about to change!!! Check it out!!!
This is my new work studio!!!

This is my first glass related tattoo, but definitly not the last.. I've got a few more ideas for some ink... It was done by my good friend Dodge, owner of Koi Tattoo, here in Kailua... About 16 hours went into this!!! All drawn custom for me.
It's a mythological lampworking scene inspired by Lucio Bubacco's work and the time I spent in Murano working with him.
A satyr sitting on Hawaiian heiau stone lampworking a small angel. There's a mermaid in the water pulling on the dragons whisker while it's breating fire, directing the flame. There's a tree woman representing mother nature there as well.
It's on the inside of my right arm (bicep) and Mother Nature is on the back of the arm, from the tricep to the shoulder.
Sorry bout the Armpit hair in the pics!!!!

GRAAAAAAAAAL RULES!!!!
Just got back to the 808 from the Mickelsen workshop at Revere Glass in Berkeley. Besides the freezing cold weather the trip was awesome!!! I met a lot of cool people and great glass blowers. I learned a ton of things I had questions about and a ton of things I had no idea about!! Mickelsen was a great teacher and I learned a lot from him and a lot from all the students!! The facility is great and Dustin is doing a good thing for our glass community!!! We had a live nude model one night, and Suellen Fowler even stopped in and did a demo for us!!! Sweeeeeeet!!!!
I know others posed pics, but I got a few cool ones, and I wanted to share them too... The Bowl was sweet!!!

My first Retticello marble!!! I'm pretty stoked on it!!! it's 2 iniches in Diameter!! bigger then expected it to be!!!
I'm not much of a marble maker, but I really like marbles and am trying to learn their secrets...
I was at the Revere School for the Mickelsen Workshop (which was sick!!!) and I asked some of the guys for some advice regarding the making of marbles. So after a thorough explanation of some technique and ninja abilities this is what I came up with!!!
I'm pretty stoked on this one!! I made another one but it didn't come out so good.... I'm pretty sure I know what I did wrong with it, so I'll give it another try and see if I'm correct...
I want to thank Kaj and Travis for their advice and help in this, I was clueless until they filled me in!! Tanks Ah!!! Those guys are marble masters!!!!
Shoots!!!

Hope you dig it!!!
Lots of colors!!!

Aloha everyone! My name is Ben Burton and I've been lampworking since January of 1999. I work borosilicate primarily but I will occasionally work moretti as well. I consider myself a sculptural artist, although I enjoy making focal pendants and have recently become infatuated with making marbles as well. I live on the island of O'ahu, Hawaii and my work is constantly influenced by the beauty around me!! I hope you take the time to check out and enjoy my work!!! Please feel free to leave comments or messages. I'd love some comments and criticisms, so let's hear it.
Mahalo and Aloha!!

thanks for the support
nice work ben! your very impressive for being self taught, we were all self taught as well. I'm just now fully realizing the importance of professional instruction, looking at other more experienced artist on glassartist.org you can really see the direct influnce taking classes has on peoples work.As far as ordering more stickers our website is being reconstructed(long story)but you can give me a call and order them direct, were also in the process of creating more glass oriented t-shrit designs check back wiht me gabe(at)coloradics 303-443-9952(office) 303-709-8529(cell) bless

Thanks for the comment! The person who got that marble is a dear friend of mine who really appreciated it so I'm stoked. I really dig the glass tree and the little turtle pendant. You should shoot me your # so you can share your experience with Robert Mickelson. I totally want to go to one of his seminars. Peace. Sam
