This lamp consists of many different materials. The head is made of fiber
glass with acrylic paint over it, the clear tube is borosilicate 31mm heavy wall filled with oil on top (yellow) water with food coloring (red) and karo syrup with food coloring (blue). The base is a piece of square steel tubing welded to a 20 inch bicycle wheel. The piece deals with transparency and use of light. There is a light on each side of the glass tubing which emits light through the liquids on the stem and a light bulb that sits behind the top (the head). When placed in the corner of a dark room, the red lightbulb in it creates a glow of red against the wall, and allows you to see the transparency of the fiberglass and acrylic paint.
