John Bridges

John Bridges here, I'm an independent glass artist working in my home studio here in lovely Eugene, Oregon, which some call the glass Mecca of the Northwest. I'm currently 38 years of age and I live here with my wife and two daughters, 6 and 11, who tolerate my eccentricities honorably.

I've been working the glass for about 8 years now, mostly self-taught but with a little early apprenticeship with some good friends: Gypsy, Casey, and Dan C. (give thanks brothers!). Such apprenticeship generally took place in several sketchy wooden structures in country settings; we're probably lucky that we didn't burn the place to smouldering cinders.

From the very first I've been fascinated with marbles. Something about the way they can transport the mind out of the room to some uncharted sphere, something about that otherworldly floatiness, something about that perfectly round spin....It all had me transfixed. Though I was pleased enough working in the electronics industry, my glass pursuits soon ballooned and became my new profession.

I now create glassworks in many forms, but marbles remain my focus, heart desire, and the subject of late night ponderings, so for now I will let marbles be the focus of this gallery. I've developed several marble families, and there's more to come, so have a look.

I mostly rely on implosion as a base technique, and am generally in pursuit of symmetry, depth, and resonant character, though departures from those points can be enlightening. I strive to make all my marbles presentable from any angle, as any sphere should be.

Presently I post marbles each week on Ebay, each saturday morning, so keep your eyes peeled. The best way is to check my Ebay store, which can be reached via www.blackfireglassworks.com .

For other opportunites to acquire orbs, feel free to drop me an email.

Thanks for looking!
