(Functional Art Glass)

Tree of Life This plate was blown in the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, while I was a visiting artist. The image has been sandblasted onto the surface. It is one of my all time favorites.

Hey, my name is Pia and I started blowing glass in 2000 in Finland where the traditions of glass blowing and glass art run deep. I noticed very soon that art and design are the way I want to go. I had my first exhibition in 2002. And since that I have considered myself as an artist.
I wanted to learn how to make beads, not really because i wanted to make them, just because i wanted to know how to. Oh boy, was I hooked right away. I soon realized how amazing things people were able to do with a tiny bit of glass and how much very talented people have I never noticed, just because I didn't really know much about bead making. So I left to England to study lampworking for a while. That has been the best months my careerwise I can think of. I wasnt able to continue with lampworking when I returned to Finland, until just couple months ago I was able to set up a studio right here at home. Now I still have to recover all the lost techniques and learn new ones, so I am mainly concentrating on the ones that I feel confident with.
I moved to Seattle area 2003 and now I live in Texas. I have been fortunate to work with wonderful and very talented world known glass artists, and I have learned a lot, but now I want to do something that makes my world go round. Nothing can stop me now. Im on my way!

Very cool! How big? I like how the tree branches blend over the back layer of brown.
