Bamboo

Bamboo

One of my Asian inspired plates. Its funny.... Asia gets to you. I could plant the whole garden full of japanese maples and bamboos. This is my favorite theme.

Dragonfly II

Dragonfly II

This piece is from my very first exihibition. I was fascinated with all kind of wings and insects. I still am, and moving around the world just makes it so rewarding when your biggest inspiration is nature and cultures.

Helsinki

Helsinki

These beads are inspired by the colors of my former home town, Helsinki. If you ever travel there in a middle of a winter and go for a walk onto the ice on a sunny day, you will know exactly what was I mean...

Koi Pond

Koi Pond

Look into the round pot at a Japanese court yard. You thought it was just full of water and couple leaves floating on it. But what you saw instead was beautiful koi fish swimming around among the water lilies.

Lampi

Lampi

This rare pate de verre plate is from my very first exhibition. Even I made a mold for it, it is one of a kind. It is like a frozen pond in a morning sun. Just starting to melt, fragile and soon to disappear...

Rome

Rome

These gorgeous colors in this bead are something that I try to keep up with all my work. Color and mastering the technique...

Tree of Life

Tree of Life

This plate was blown in the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, while I was a visiting artist. The image has been sandblasted onto the surface. It is one of my all time favorites.

Hey, my name is Pia and I started blowing glass in 2000 in Finland where the traditions of glass blowing and glass art run deep. I noticed very soon that art and design are the way I want to go. I had my first exhibition in 2002. And since that I have considered myself as an artist.
I wanted to learn how to make beads, not really because i wanted to make them, just because i wanted to know how to. Oh boy, was I hooked right away. I soon realized how amazing things people were able to do with a tiny bit of glass and how much very talented people have I never noticed, just because I didn't really know much about bead making. So I left to England to study lampworking for a while. That has been the best months my careerwise I can think of. I wasnt able to continue with lampworking when I returned to Finland, until just couple months ago I was able to set up a studio right here at home. Now I still have to recover all the lost techniques and learn new ones, so I am mainly concentrating on the ones that I feel confident with.
I moved to Seattle area 2003 and now I live in Texas. I have been fortunate to work with wonderful and very talented world known glass artists, and I have learned a lot, but now I want to do something that makes my world go round. Nothing can stop me now. Im on my way!
