Rooster milli

VinE loaned me a book on mosaic glass entitled Miniature Masterpieces Mosaic Glass 1838-1924 by Giovanni Sarpellon

In it there is a chapter entitled The Last Murano Rooster. Which talks about how the rooster is murano's emblem.
It describes how in 1923 murano ceased to be independent and was incorperated into venice. The people of murano didn't like this one bit for when venice was one of the most powerful cities in europe it declined murano.

Then the Morettis and the Baroviers families began making rooster murinne as a way to make tribute to the great emblem in which thousands of chips could be made from each cane.

This book is a great book and now i look at milli in a different light now.
making the rooster was more like a painting to me than the milli i'm used to making with solid lines segregating colors.I think this may be a new direction for me.

Thanks VinE

I started blowing glass in april of 2000. On a cold day in a sugar shack is where it all began. Since then glass has consumed my life. It is my full time occupation as well as a hobby. I mainly work with boro, but as of recently i have expanded to 90 and 104 coe glasses.
