Endemic to the rainforests of Maui & Moloka'i Stenogyne kamehamehae is "mintless" Hawaiian mint. The strong smell in mint is a deterrent to insects. This mint evolved without a predator and so lost its smell and gained large tubular flowers that birds pollinate.

    Thanks Ben!
Jupiter Nielsen: I used snow white and forest green and a little momkas ivy green. the pink is one from GA's "glasstique" cant remember the name.
Thanks for the comments! this one was fun and kinda scary. its about 12 inches tall, the stem was so thin i had to be really careful with all those leaf connections. about 10 hours in i caught the edge of the kiln with it and it crumbled. I picked up the pieces and put it back together. Aloha Jup

JDC Roman: I like the presence. I didn't know that mint could loose its smell. Thanks for sharing.

    Nice Jupiter
Leopold: This piece has a really nice balance to it, and great use of color! The longer I do flame work the more I enjoy doing sculpture work like this. It seems the torch works well for it. If you don't mind me asking, how much would you retail this piece for?

    Thanks Everyone!
Jupiter Nielsen: I had a lot of fun making this piece. its for an art show next month. not really sellable but i will have to put a price tag on it. i never know what to charge for these type of pieces. if you add up the hours, supplies and gallery cut you come out to a number that no one will every pay for such a niche piece. I need to get some better photos, these ones are junk. my setup doesn't work for a piece of this size and color.

    Very Well Done Jupiter
CoryLEE: Awesome job with the plant life. Where did you take the pics of the actual Kamehameha Mint?? I cant figure out if glass is your passion or botany/hunting for endemic plants.....you are so very talented at both. Keep up the good work and we need to get together soon,
    Later,
    Cory
