Finally this piece has come together, you've seen the in-progress post from a couple of months or so ago with my crappy photos, these were taken by our photographer. It was pretty tough for him to shoot this piece because of all the different qualities of the glass. Here is the finished piece. I love the contrast between our different styles of glasswork. We entered it for consideration for the Ranamok Glass Prize and a couple of days ago we were notified that we were chosen as one of the 32 finalists. The other work we entered was "Ode to the Sun King" which you can also find in our gallery here.
“Venus Rising” Exploring the dichotomy between the fragility of nature and the detritus of mans wasteful attitude to the earth, frivolity and lightness play across the surfaces of this object, while we are reminded that life is ephemeral. Nestled snugly within this jumble of life and rusty decay, like a treasure, is the pearly shell of a nautilus, the age-old symbol of Divine Proportion. Height 60cm
