With some controversy, graffiti is being used as a way of adding art to imposing concrete walls in our urban environments. The artistic process in the production of a piece of spray-can graffiti has influenced the design of the 'Urban Graphics' range. I researched the wy in which Street Artists use stencils as an aid in producing their work. I am drawn to the way in which a picture is built up using various layers and colours. The defined edges created, using this technique also adds to the textural effect I want to acheive. Adornment of surface pattern and colour, are the two main themes of the 'Urban Graphics' range and I employ hot glass techniques and cold worked decoration to achieve this. Using these concepts and methods of decoration, the 'Urban Graphics' pieces I create, play with the idea that themselves are adorned, and adorn the environment in which they are placed.
