Glass Mobiles by Gary Ruvo

Originally made famous by Alexander Calder, hanging mobiles and kinetic sculptures have ever since marveled us. I've added a twist to hanging mobiles by combining the grace of Calder with the colorful vision of Louis Comfort Tiffany to create my stained glass mobiles. My stained glass mobiles have many moods depending on how the light shines through them. Hanging your mobile indoors by a window and enjoy the variety of colors that come through them as the daylight changes. My mobiles are assembled together using a very nice lead-free silver solder. After soldering, flux residues are neutralized and wiped clean from the glass mobile pieces revealing the unfinished bare solder. I then give each piece of the mobile a brisk woolen rub down to relieve the shinny solder to a matte finish. The mobiles are then passed through a patina wash to give the metals their darkened color. After the patina is neutralized and wiped clean they are then processed through a hot carnauba wax treatment. Finally the hanging mobiles are taken to the muslin wheel where each piece is buffed to its finished luster.
