In the fall of 2006 I went to Hamburg Germany to study for five days with Diana East and Dora Schubert. They taught us how to make the beautiful and mysterious floral cane murinni that I have encorporated into my latest beads. And Dora generously shared her flat lapidary machine so that we could learn to shape our beads....I love making my focals into contemporary looking discs! I learned some things about reactive glass too, as you will see in some of the hearts I am showing here. So enjoy these new works from me...about time I got new things in here!

These are some of the first floral cane murinni I made, on a base of red, cold worked.
This cane murinni was encased in opaque color, giving the flowers a more substantial look. Also a cold-worked bead.
Taking the sides off this bead helped to lighten it. The colors in the cane reacted with each other to give a darker flower than I expected. Silvered ivory murinni accent the background.

I love the ethereal look of these murinni, which were used in the classic manner and plunged. They almost wave as in water, although encased in glass!
The rich cane for these murinni flowers was encased in transparent red for effect. The stamen are goldstone stringer.
The ethereal cane murinni were plunged after opening them up This is a lovely round bead with Gaia glass in the core.
This delicate group of cane murinni really surprised me.
This is my favorite bead, with two transparent blues encasing the cane and goldstone stamen.

I am never ready for Valentine's Day, so I have decreed heart beads to be a year-round requirement for a happy life. My newest heart beads have deeply encased flowers, which explode with color when the cold-worked hearts are seen on edge. Some of the newest beads are of a more organic nature, because I used silver leaf and reactive glass for the petals, and to be honest, I was totally surprised by each bead I made. The most enjoyable and productive work comes from losing oneself in the process, trying one thing which leads to another, and suddenly there is original work, beautiful and new to the artist (of course, any artist could come up with the same alchemy...I am not taking credit for anything except the ability to let myself be free and just play!) These beads are all cold-worked on the lapidary machine, which lives in my kitchen in lieu of a microwave, toaster or dishwasher...just the basics!!
