My first Retticello marble!!! I'm pretty stoked on it!!! it's 2 iniches in Diameter!! bigger then expected it to be!!!
I'm not much of a marble maker, but I really like marbles and am trying to learn their secrets...
I was at the Revere School for the Mickelsen Workshop (which was sick!!!) and I asked some of the guys for some advice regarding the making of marbles. So after a thorough explanation of some technique and ninja abilities this is what I came up with!!!
I'm pretty stoked on this one!! I made another one but it didn't come out so good.... I'm pretty sure I know what I did wrong with it, so I'll give it another try and see if I'm correct...
I want to thank Kaj and Travis for their advice and help in this, I was clueless until they filled me in!! Tanks Ah!!! Those guys are marble masters!!!!
Shoots!!!

These are some of the Space Cheese Mibs that I took to Vegas for the Marble show! They're all around 2 inches or so. These are super fun to make!
The pictures don't really do the marbles any justice... These are way cooler and have way more depth to them 'in hand!'

I had a chance to work with travis Weber for a few days this summer and I learned a lot from him about keeping my surface work clean. The raking patterns are a result of what he showed me, and are very much inspired by his work. Thanx Travis I appriciate your pointers!

I had a request for a couple eye marbles. I thought through a few different techniques to use to make them, and this was what I came up with in the first batch. I'm pretty stoked on them! they were really fun to make!!! I'll probably try out the other styles I was thinking of next time I hop on the torch!! I hope you like them!!!

So along with my Eyeballs I tried a few other things out....
I tried a few eyes in the way Kenan Tiemeyer does his, but they just didn't come out right... I have the idea conceptually but when I try to manifest it on this physical plane it doesn't work correctly... but I did get some really cool fuming effects that I shall experiment with more in the future.
I also did my first airtrap marble. it's a little guy. and it's a total Anakin bite, but it was pretty tasty!!!
There's also a honeycomb and a monster marble and maybe more...
Enjoy!!

Measures 1 and 17/32"
I was also wondering if anyone else has made one of these, on accident. or on purpose???

Here it is... Well one of them at least ;-) I've been working on these Palm Tree Marbles recently... Trying to figure things out... You know work out the kinks... I've almost got it though...
I wanted to create a marble that was somewhat representative of the beautiful place where I live... I figured a Palm Tree, a Wave and a Sunset pretty much says Hawaii!!!
I hope you like it!!!!

Aloha everyone! My name is Ben Burton and I've been lampworking since January of 1999. I work borosilicate primarily but I will occasionally work moretti as well. I consider myself a sculptural artist, although I enjoy making focal pendants and have recently become infatuated with making marbles as well. I live on the island of O'ahu, Hawaii and my work is constantly influenced by the beauty around me!! I hope you take the time to check out and enjoy my work!!! Please feel free to leave comments or messages. I'd love some comments and criticisms, so let's hear it.
Mahalo and Aloha!!
