1 & 1/2 inch - I have had this marble in my pocket all week. I am really attached to it right now. But I have one in the kiln right now that might take its place tomorrow.

Sweet little checkered Gem. I learned this coloring technique from Jeff Rogers. What he showed me eventually evolved into a checkerboard design. For some reason I was never able to get the color and the design at the same time.

1 & 3/8 Using new colors can be invigorating. I always need to remind myself to try new things. Otherwise I will stagnate. When my work stagnates I can really feel it effecting other areas of my life. This is usually a sign to try something new. Basically, take a risk. The risk being, making something crappy. But we learn from it all either way .

I have been focusing on my surface working. It is really fun and I have learned a lot from viewing my contemporaries work. Josh Sable, Mike Gong, Nate Miers, John Kobuki, Eric Anders, Chris Rice, Kenan Tiemeyer and everyone one that posts on this site. I definitely try to speak with my own voice but with out seeing everyone elses work, my work would not be. Thats one of the reasons we call it a "glass community" I think I take a little from everyone and hope I can give back just the same. Take what you want and leave the rest. Observing many artists and trying to apply all the desired qualities of each to your own work. I think thats one way many artists grow. Same thing with paintng or music. With dedication you become a little bit of all the artist that inspire you. Or like passing the torch, you can pick up where another artist left off.

1 & 3/8 Lately I have been focusing on my surface work. It really changes the entire marble when the back and sides are colored. It no longer has the hot air balloon look. Although the balloon is there the sides and back are not viewed the same. I sold this piece today. Grateful to be able to sell my work. Also, sad to see it go.

1 & 5/16 This marble is going thru a conflict. A cold inside surrounded by the opposite extreme on the surface.

Weird how it comes on strong at times...then plateau's. Just keep pushing thru and you'll reach the next high. You'll never know when it will happen either. This one happened at 3:00 am. Weighs in at 2.2 Inches

1 & 3/8 This will be the first in a series of single eye backed marbles. This one titled lazy eye because to the droopiness of the eye with in the triangle.

2 inch Travicello...This is a larger marble than I typically make. I think it came out well and I hope to continue making some marbles this size.

This marble was the outcome of taking a few steps back. I have a tendency to get a head of myself and then start making a bunch of duds. I find it has always helped me to back up a bit and then rework some older ideas. New ideas seem to develop just from taking those steps. I think that is all part of the process that we go thru as artists, the frustration preceeding a break thru. Ahh yes, the beauty of being an artist.

Here are a few more of this design I am currently developing. I really have just been focusing on great the effect I am looking for. I am studing the subtle chamges that occur when I slightly alter the process. That is the best way I have found to gain control. Study Stufy Study.... the down fall to that is that all my marble come out in similar looking batches. If I spread the learning process out and mix up the styles I dont seem to learn each technique as thourough.

Some marbles I made for Ben Burton. Thanks for being so patient Benny. The concept of course being the dot version of a ratty.

2 & 5/32 I believe this to be one of my largest marbles yet. This a a fine example of my Travicello style. I was inspired for two reasons. First being Ben Burton. He came to the mainland to visit and attend the LA Marble show. He kept asking about the Travicello. Second being Mike Gong, when I went down to LA for the show we worked together for 2 days. Seeing the size and quality of marbles he makes definitely pushed me to step it up in size. I learned some cool things at Mikes house and it reinforced my respect for making marbles at the sizes that he does. Seeing a 6 way vortex that was 4 inches pretty cool. Then hearing that he would have a 6 hour session working on one marble was insane to me.

1 & 1/4 - Couple of marbles that I hand mixed all the colors from scratch. Except the turbo. I took a class form Suellen Fowler this week. It was great. I recommend taking her class if you have a chance. She is a wonderful woman and the entire class had a blast learning from her. I believe what I learning from her will have an affect on most everything I make.

Not to many marbles being made this summer on my part. Moving my shop and setting again ended up being more time consuming then I thought. I am 95% done with setting up. I am excited to say the it is the best shop I have end had. I hope it will reflect in my work for years to come. Here are some marbles I have worked on over the last month.

1 & 3/4 I had to put this one in two categories. I have had this one on my mind for awhile. This is a vortex that has a reticello built around it. I think this one is worth developing. The vortex should to be reworked with a fresher concept but I got to start some where. The coolest part is pulling the termination for the vortex and the ratty at the same time.

Oh yes these are fun when they pull together nicely. These first one is 2 inches and the second is 1 & 3/4. I made one the other day and forgot to turn the kiln on . I thru it in the cold kiln and flipped it on. It blew up!! I always need a reminder to keep me on my toes.
