The artist, Alicia Wittman, grew up in a small town outside of Buffalo, New York. One of two children growing up in a single parent household, creativity and art came in handy as an escape from the world around her.
Alicia's Mother Carol took her to many antique shows and auctions as a child where she developed a love for carnival glass and started a collection. It wasn't until many years and many mediums later that Alicia visited a Chihuly exhibit at the Orlando Museum of Art (2003-2004) where she was bitten by the Glass bug resulting in a glass addiction. This exhibit resulted in a fast and furious love for glass art in every form or style.
Alicia was lucky enough to find Atlantis Glass Studios in Orlando where Rick(the owner) was nice enough to grant her entry into a beginning stained glass class in 2004. By 2005 Alicia was mesmerized by the possibility of being able to melt glass and kilnform, slump or cast glass. After her first fusing class, she bought a kiln and has been on fire ever since.
This year, Alicia was lucky enough to be featured by the Appleton Museum of Art in a lecture on Florida Contemporary artists. Most recently Alicia has been studying with Newy Fagan in Ocklawaha, Florida. Other mediums that the artist enjoys are Acrylics and photography. The artist holds a BS and Masters in Business Administration.
