Calyxann's Gallery

Calyxann's Gallery My name is Carrie Strope, and I'm an artist currently residing in the Napa Valley. I've always had an attraction to glass art, but only in the past few years have I begun to explore the field as more than an admirer. I had been looking to learn about glass, when I stumbled upon a local glass studio, Michele Mitcavish's glass studio, that offered a beginning fusing class through the adult education school in Napa. Immediately, I was addicted! Since then, I have expanded my resume considerably, and have begun to help teach these beginning classes as well.

Dream Seeds

Dream Seeds

The final project from the Intermediate Fused Glass class at Mitcavish Studio in Napa, this glass billet was created with 5 layers. Three 1/4" layers were "painted" with powders. Two 1/8" layers were used as spacers to give the image some depth.

I've set up an Etsy.com shop...

So, there's a site out there now, called Etsy.com, that's dedicated to artists and crafters selling one-of-a-kind objects. I'm just beginning to explore it, and these are the pendants I have posted for sale.

My latest experiments

My latest experiments

So, I've just taken my latest batch of soon-to-be glass pendants out of the kiln to see what's happened...I'm pleased! The garden series is going well, and I've got an idea of how I'll make the grapes look more like grapes (I'm going to incorporate them into a beaded necklace of leaves and grapes).
Anywho, enjoy!
Thanks for looking!

New Freeze and Fuse Technique

New Freeze and Fuse Technique

Recently, I attended a workshop given by Sacramento glass artist, Phil Teefy of Rainbow Glass. He's collaborated with a few people to create a new technique that possibly has NEVER been used before, or at least since ancient times!
It involves using glass powder, water and molds. I've successfully used candy molds, homemade molds, and molds typically used by polymer clay fans.
Here are the resuluts:)
