Living Orchid Vase

(Vases & Vessels)

Living Orchid Vase This intricate piece is the third produced by Mark Mccourt and I. This time I made the foot and top, and Mark made a very detailed sculpture of an orchid growing out of a little flower pot and attached it to a tree or root style stem. I really love how this piece came together, it is much different than anything I have made before. Mark did all the assembly, and his experience with larger pieces certainly shows. True height is 13&3/4 in. This piece is proudly displayed at my shop in Durango, CO.

Cuatro Kruse
Cuatro Kruse began his lampworking adventure in the spring of 2002, dropping out of high school at the age of 17 to pursue a career in glass. Since then he has dedicated himself to perfecting his lampworking skills, practicing full time in his remodeled studio in Durango, Colorado, his home town for 21 years. In 2004-2005, he studied with renowned glass artists Jason Lee, Robert Mikelsen, and Bob Snodgrass. These artists have given him the skills and direction he needed to become the glass artist he is today, and their influences can definitely be seen in his work. Cuatro’s glass art can be seen in various galleries and shops throughout Colorado, and he is currently working on expanding throughout the U.S. His work can be viewed online at: http://www.glassartists...atro_Kruses_Gallery.asp

NOT A BUBBLER
Thanks for all the comments guys, but this is not a bubbler! I don't see how it could even remotely resemble one, but I'm sure it's just a joke anyway. Also, how is the orchid "identical" to the rest of the piece? I didn't think pako actaully makes any bubbs, I thought he just breaks and sandblasts them so that he can post on both sites and say that everyone elses glass is not "art" and every technique is "Dead". No offense Pako, I like your work, but lighten up a little, and think twice before you say that someone else's work doesn't fit into your exclusive definition of "Art". You might really offend someone...

What is art?

Everything, anything, if you can percieve it with your senses you can find a way to call it art. Nature is art, life is art, art is art, and hand blown Glass is certainly ART!
