Ruth makes kiln formed glass panels, dishes and tiles in a range of subtle colours and designs. Silver, copper and aluminium leaf is layered between glass and fused in a kiln to produce a flat panel. The metals react to the heat , changing colour and producing bubbles. As the glass cools the reactions are frozen and the colours become permanent. The sheet can then be displayed as a flat wall panel, tile or splashback. The can be fired again in the kiln and shaped to produce a shallow dish. The colours are limited to those that the metals produce naturally and work well in both traditional and contemporary settings. Every piece is made individually and although Ruth works within a range of her own designs each piece is unique. The firing is controlled but the reaction of the metals can be very varied.
