the how and why
how: im not sure i understand what you mean by how... how i made the piece? i used carved styrofoam and made a rigid co2 set sand mold from it, i then ladled glass into it from a furnace. afterwards i cleaned it up a bit, scrubbed off all of the sand, and then i painted onto the back. i cut a black foamcore frame for it and attached them to a base that i welded and then painted black. why:Each of us lives our life by referencing our own ideas of truth and reality, private check points reminding ourselves how to act and who to be. This piece is a way of exploring these ideas through examining the personal mythology of myself and others. A momento of a thought or experience, it celebrates my individuality while simultaneously developing a way to identify with others: I find that this is exceptionally beautiful when translated into the inherent fragility and translucency of glass. The material itself makes a statement about the human condition and the condition of the relationships we have with each other, something I continue to address in my work.
